What do you pick, /v/?
>>333811428
If I have to pick:
3. Are you talking to me?
But I'd say it in a non-confrontational manner, because for all I know the poor sod's just asking for help with something.
>>333811428
#5, shaggy, unkempt manlets have absolutely no right to talk to me.
>>333811428
I pick up a knife and gouge my eyes out because the graphics are somehow worse than BG1. That fucking ground and those motherfucking rocks, jesus christ.
>>333811428
I pick "complain to the dev and writer that there is no bawdy and disrespectful answer."
This reminds me of this BG2 mod where all the options range from "kill him for speaking to a woman", to "sexism against men is impossible, so this answer isn´t sexist".
>>333811428
4. Call me wench one more time. One more time, I dare you.
Voghlin: Aye aye, wench!
1: Courageous! I like that in a man.
>>333811428
Why did we need 4 options for the "Respect me"-answer?

Does he say sorry if you pick any of those options?

It's not like Irenicus or BG2 was the epitome of good writing either.

They were certainly much better written than this.

>>333811428

Yes, it was better. But comparing bad writing with worse writing doesn't make the bad writing good.

You just know some bitch wrote this.
Can someone catch me up to speed with all this?
I thought Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 came out a long time ago, how do they have tumblr shit in them?
>>333817861
Wait, so they really changed the writing of the game? I bought the steam version a few days ago expecting the original game, am I fucked?
>>333818004
There's not a way to just mod the new release to the original version?

mostly because ppl like you give it attention and energy. other people see this, such as the gay community and they see it as hate so they cling to bioware shit out of spite. thats what i think anyway
>>333812585
is this an actual answer? if so then that's pretty good
>>333817908
Just downgrade to patch 1.3 to get rid of the new sprites + UI and you'll be fine. I don't think EE added any new NPCs that aren't related to the new party members.
>>333811428

What the fuck is this lazy writing, he just said hi, not "can I join you?"

>mfw
>>333821245
Evidence is the entirety of BG2. Irenicus does not have the capability to carry the role of being the main antagonist in the game.
Playing through SoD currently after just redoing 1 and holy shit going through the entry area was fine even with the annoying loss ofImoen, but then get to BG and sure there were a fair number of times I could act how I wanted my character to act but there were also a good amount where I had "no say" and just had to go with the least worst option.
Then Safana who was great in 1 is now just being an absolute cunt non-stop for some reason.
She was also the only party member I wanted out of the lackluster lineup to join me so I was stuck with just me and her until the archer captain joined, not sure if I'll keep her but eh.
Edwin showed up out of nowhere and fuck it I'll take him for now because there's fucking nobody else.
The quests in BG were pointless and just served to annoy me, the ones in the first map are okay so far and the fights have been alright.
Thankfully that stupid hippie encounter in BG allowed you to act like someone who isn't retarded and still get the loot from the guy.
I dunno I'm expecting it to be mildly average for a campaign but maybe it'll have its moments.
Mainly I'm just slogging through it to get to 2, which I'll probably rush to saveImoenas fast as possible as I wanther cute buttin my main party.
>>333821646
Oh also for some reason there are a fuckload of magical items that are only sort of useful if you're a very specific race/class sometimes at opportune moments.
What the fuck were they thinking?
Wow a cloak that gives halflings +5 hp and +2 AC against giants.
Wow I'll definitely use that instead of my +2 cloak of protection or +2 charisma cloak that can dire charm or even my cloak of non-detection.
>>333821768
Is there a returning dagger/dart?
What did you do to make the sprites so ugly? They look like they're covered in some goop. Some high-res mod?
>>333812585
is that really what happens?
>>333822041
Not a clue.
There is a returning axe in 1 though.
>>333822179
Nope, it's an option in EE.

Pillars of Eternity gives resting bonuses for being with prostitutes. Also has more complex reputation system and doesn't punish you for being evil, unless you're really evil, and then everyone will just obviously hate you.
But if nobody sees you slaughter a town, well...
Anyhow I don't play as an evil edgelord (more clever and deceptive, praise Wael) but I appreciate that the option is there.
Honestly I couldn't go back to BG and am still debating on SoD. I'll probably skip it. I'm just too spoiled by PoE.
>>333826995
He said decent rpg
>>333826679
Pretty much. But even then, saying you want to improve on the originals is one thing, but you don't go around insulting Black Isle and their fans by calling BG sexist.
They committed financial suicide, and they don't even understand how. That's both hilarious and incredibly sad at the same time.

>able to take over Spellhold
how is that lucky and not showcasing his power?
Your mistake is thinking he is some kind of master planner type of enemy, and that he had somehow predicted everything that happens in the game, but there is no evidence of that.
>>333821608
How about actual evidence instead of
>I didn't like it so it's bad
Nothing he does in the game is implausible for an epic level wizard.
>>333827475
>>333826995
Completely agree. Aside from the very regrettable decision of allowing backers to write those gold-plated NPCs, it's been hard for me to come up with legit criticisms of the game.
I think "godlikes" are kind of dumb and it took me awhile to get used to the mechanics. But that's understandable, it's new (thank fucking god a game in this genre is willing to ditch the kludgy AD&D system) I love all the trait/skill checks, the art/music/voicing is beautiful, combat's balanced but challenging and you can make it as hard as you want by trying a huge array of tactics and party lineup.
I go back and forth on how I feel about the soul stuff. In a way I think "oh, soul stuff, haven't seen that before, blah" but also it's a really unique take that does work in the end. The take on gods towards the end was good.
It could handle having more levity though I generally appreciate Durance and Eder's dry humor more than GO 4 THE EYES BOO LOLRANDUM stuff anyhow.

There's no pleasing everyone on this issue, but BG/etc rides on the d&d/etc coat-tails, so if you were new to that you would probably also tear up at how much reading you'd have to do. I think PoE introduced it well, and you don't have to give a shit about the lore. If Kana starts reminiscing about Rauatai you can just tell him to stop talking, etc.

I used to love BG, sunk a fuckton of hours into it, but it's aged and built on a system that works (sort of) for tabletop but not computers, the graphics are shit, I can't go back to it. PoE has flaws for sure, but it's a very good game, and I'm glad people are bringing back cRPGs.

It looks like garbage. Who's idea was it to put those thick, tacky outline on everything? It looks worse than the '98 original. That's kind of impressive, to take assets from a game that's nearly 2 decades old, and to make them somehow worse.
>Actually, if you play on the Core Rules difficulty setting (and above) the fiends that you encounter in Avernus are very close to their 2E AD&D counterparts in terms of stats and abilities. However, if you play on Normal or Easy, then the fiends don't use their most powerful abilities at all and will employ other abilities far less frequently than they should. That said, fiends in 2E AD&D are generally weaker than in D&D 3.x both in terms of stats and available abilities.
>As for Belhifet himself, on Core Rules and above, you need a +3 weapon (these are very rare in SoD) to hit him and his stats and abilities are pretty much on pair with what he had in Icewind Dale. However, if you play on Normal or Easy, Belhifet only requires a +2 weapon to hit and like the other SoD fiends, he uses his spell-like abilities far less frequently.
>To summarize, the PnP accuracy of SoD enemies entirely depends on the difficulty setting that you are playing on. On Core Rules and above, enemies get everything that they are supposed to get in PnP, but on Normal and Easy, they don't
The encounters sound fun in SoD. They should replace all the writers.

Too bad the game is on 2.0 now and fucking garbage.
Even if this expansion had top-notch writting instead of tumblr fanfic it would still be bad. Enhanced Edition 1.3 was just that, an Enhanced Edition that respected the originals while adding neat things like quick loot. This 2.0 version however is a disaster. The added a graphics filter that blurs everything and cannot be deactivated. Theres loss of small graphics detail everywhere (example: flies over corpses, they're no longer there). Animation is somehow choppier as if the game was constantly frameskipping. The menus were all changed for the worse. Still not kit balancing, berserker is still the only worthwile fighter kit. Bugs still there, some new ones were introduced, mostly regarding the UI, such as pressing F5 to use thief skills collapsing the dialogue window. Its a disaster.

>The other one was that we wanted to branch the middle of the plot. Some people have expressed frustration at the player's inability to influence the outcome at the ducal palace. Well, originally, we'd wanted the player to be able to do that. But it meant building two versions of the third act, and that's extremely expensive. That cut made me sad, but there was no practical argument to be made for keeping it. It was a clean cut that saved a ton of time and made our schedule semi-workable. Had to be done. Conceivably we might've allowed the player to save the duc without doing a major branching of the story, but even that would've required more time than we had. The game was delayed as it was, so there really wasn't room to add anything. As a developer at the end of a project, I think it's almost inevitable to find yourself thinking "man, the things I might've done with a couple more weeks." This is my favorite song I think. All in all the music is fantastic, fits really well and never feels like it takes over. I'm not so fond of one of the battle musics but it's not horrible. Glad they introduced new battle music in places with White March.

I choose my uninstall wizard.
>>333846893
You unlock WM1 at like, lvl7, so earliest is mid-act 2
I actually only picked the game a month ago and after crawling in normal and hard until Act3 I restarted on PotD, cleared it and it was lot of fun
I definitely recommend it, early game is a little rough for beginners but end-game scaling make you ridiculous anyway so might aswell give the enemy AI a chance
>>333847198
I actually really liked the battery fight and settings, last battle just took me like 10 reloads to get it right
>>333847571
Did you play the battery with level scaling? I did, and I absolutely hated the place. That shit threw groups of two-three sirens and other spirits at me every two steps. Not only sirens take forever to kill, but those fights are not even all that difficult otherwise. And it's not even about resource management, as they give you at least one camping supply per level. I could tolerate trash mobs in the base game, but this was on a whole different level. Abysmal is the best way to describe it.
Maybe without the scaling it's not that terrible.
>>333848218
Nah, went into WM1 as soon as I could
So I was probably lvl9/10 inside the battery
Shit was a bit tedious but I didnt mind
>>333811428
Anyone remember Amber Scott claiming the original Baldur's Gate was sexist because, among other things, Jaheira was a nagging wife?
This is dialogue from BG2, LMAO. These people shouldn't be doing this.
>>333848218
Not him but I didn't realize there was the option to scale WM1. This might change my plan. I need to find something that lays out all the specifics of when level scaling is offered.
>play a wizard
>enemy rogue go invisible and one shot me
>no stoneskin yet
fuck
>>333848869
Who is this a reply to? Aerie?
>>333811428
I pick Imoen, she's my waifu.
>>333829086
>implying Trent Oster hasn't put a fucking gag on this bitch since the shitstorm
Has she spoken at all publicly?
>>333849084
Yup, it's romance dialogue.
>>333849006
You certainly have at least mirror image? That's a level 2 spell.
Alternatively summon anything, go invisible yourself(also level 2 spell iirc), watch the rogue waste his backstab on the minion then fuck him up.
>>333846817
>actually thinking Beamdog adds bugs
You probably fucked up yourself.
>>333849425
And how did I do that? I did the same I've done a hundred times before.
I don't know how you can fuck up "getting your thieving skills back" by clicking the level up button.
>>333846817
You can only dual at level 2, not 1.
>>333849321
I think, i remember seeing the scroll but don't know if i managed to write it down. I'll have to check it out and re select my spell no more sleep spam i guess
WENCH WAS AN INFORMAL WORD MAIDEN IN THE MIDDLE AGES AND FUCKING SHAKESPEARE PLAYS THAT FUCKING FORGOTTEN REALMS LIKES TO FUCKING EMULATE
STUPID FUCKING CUNT TRYING TO TRANSPOSE MODERN DAY BULLSHIT INSTEAD OF TRYING TO BROADEN PEOPLE'S VOCABULARIES AND DISCOURAGE NEGATIVE CONNOTATIONS
>>333849730
Hide in shadows doesn't make them immune to aoe, sleep should work too.
>>333849717
Are you an idiot?
I dual'd imoen at 5. Upon reaching level 6 she had level 1 thief skills instead of what she had when I dual'd her.
Also she didn't get her short sword + short bow etc weapon profs that she had as a thief.
>>333849756
Fantasy setting is not the same as the middle ages you dummy.
>>333849846
They have more than 5HD making sleep useless
>>333850048
Which is why I said Forgotten Realms like to emulate it you daft fuck
>>333850140
If you are fighting 5HD enemies you should have access to level 3 spells yourself. You should have plenty of counters, even fireball spam, or just mirror image and summons.
>>333849084
Who else? Aerie was annoying as fuck.
Huh, I didn't realized Tyranny's coming out this year.
Looks promising. Just saw it's a classless system which will be interesting, inb4 I get called an Obsidrone again.
>>333850430
>getting excited about a game centered around a "but this time you're evil!" gimmick
Good drone.
>>333850428
Aerie is cute. CUTE!
>>333850704
>tfw you will never have a foursome with elves
Why live
>>333850643
More like, being good will actually be the challenging option for once. I'd be more of a paradrone anyhow the more I think of it.
>>333850430
I find the premise really interesting too, and they are saying all the right things about the cnc.
But they always go on about how you are making large scale decisions, how these decisions are not your usual rpg stuff, how there are no traditional quests. And then you see the art direction, hear about combat and the combo system, and you begin to wonder whether these people actually know what the fuck they are doing.
>>333850913
I didn't look too close at the screenshots and haven't read much yet about combat and whatnot, but yeah I always brush off big hype claims these days. It's just safer to ignore any big claims and just be excited about a new "in the IE/PoE style" game.
>>333850913
Obsidian says a lot of things and they always have some sort of excuse when things don't turn out the way they promised
>>333833803
Ever heard of time zones?
>>333850834
>tfw you'll never have an orgy with every kind of female in Faerun.
>tfw you'll never bang an orc while having a succubus's tongue deep in your ass
Why even live?
>>333843183
More bullshit. You autists are so fucking butthurt about this game.
>>333850883
Play Age of Decadence then.
>mfw I go to university and know several people that fit the demographic this is appealing to
>mfw i heard them having a conversation about dragon age inquisition
>mfw neither of them play the game, they just look at fan art on tumblr
>mfw they dont actually play any of these games, and would probably say theyre too hard and go browse tumblr instead
>mfw developers have their hard work creating a fun game ruined by sjw writers who dont actually like vidya
>mfw this industry wide phenomenon of white male developers bending to the will of a demographic that doesnt even play their games will continue
>mfw I have no face
>>333846945
I know of one, Andrew Foley. He wrote Baeloth and considering Baeloth is one of the best things (if not the best) to come out of the EE's, perhaps he should have been the only one.
>>333851520
I was just reading about it a bit ago and skimmed over some gameplay. My worry is that maybe the writing seemed kind of amateur hour, but that's unfair from just a quick skim.
>>333850643
Games where you play as the villain can be counted on one hand. What a dumb thing to criticize.
>>333824920
>read the original answers
>"holy crap, that's some shitty dialoge options"
>read anons continuation
>"that's actually pretty clever"
>it's made up by him and not in the game
>mfw random anon is a better writer than amber scott
>>333852054
That's what makes it a gimmick.
>>333851707
Baeloth was great, he was a lot of fun. That guy should be proud.
>>333851127
What the fuck am I looking at?
>>333852598
A joke NPC. His voice even sounds like the typical California Stoner guy you see in shows/movies.
>>333852720
That player picked the options where you played along with his madness. You can play it straight too.
>>333852720
DUDE WEED
crpgs are abysmal to play anyway, even without the awful SJW dialogue
divinity did it right
>>333852998
Would a veteran BG player who tried to go back but finds it rubbish, however very much enjoys PoE, enjoy divinity?
>>333853172
not at all, his taste has been irreversibly warped into shit
>>333819380
>Why do these dirty smelly rat fuckers think this will earn them more money?
Because it does. Being un-PC is a niche market. Heresy doesn't sell so well.
>>333853172
If you're looking for better writing? No. The combat and fucking with physics/elements is fun though. Play on whatever the hardest difficulty is because it becomes a cakewalk halfway through.
>there's a pack of 15 enemies behind every corner
Oh boy i can already see this being tedious as fuck
>>333829086
>P:T "favorite game of all time"
>Doesn't want to write like it because it's white/cis/privileged
How can you acquire taste and then work your hardest to stray as far from it as possible?
>>333855131
You can have good writing AND a positive message you know.
>>333855131
That's easy, you're just pretending to have taste to get the job, just like I pretended to be a huge Mega man fan
>>333855340
>Be writer
>Pretend to like whatever the company you apply for likes to get in
Wouldn't the opposite become quite evident really fucking fast? Especially when it affects your actual work.
Beamdog doesn't need to ruin Torment.
Numenera is already doing that.
>>333811428
I'd say
"Are you talking to me? Teehee" because I love playing as bubbly sluts
>>333855340
You work at Capcom? Tell them their remakes need less jiggle physics and more progressive pandering.
Mega """""Man""""" wow no thanks
unless ftm, not interested really
>>333849880
Obviously you have no idea how to dualclass. The game is bug-free.
I'd pick not buying this game.
I pick
>What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.
Except with D&D references, obviously.
