Depends on the context. They are slow as fuck and thus can get countered easy by some units. But they are definitely some of the strongest.

Honestly, no. Their speed is just so bad. On top of that their pierce armor is only decent, leaving them quite vulnerable to ranged attacks.
Stats are insane but the previous problems mean they, at best, are good for protecting other units from melee enemies or disrupting economy.

Teutonic knight does win 1v1 against like every unit IIRC but of course that doesn't actually happen in-game.

The only survivors were actually picked off my two of the computer's units, which then proceeded to continue patrolling around the entire map for no reason.
I believe samurai are the most effective non-siege counter to teutonic knights. Even though they loose in a one on one fight, the samurai are a lot cheaper so with equal resources spent, the samurai will tear the teutonic knights apart.
