They fucked everything up from the start. He was about to kill the alpha wendigo (forgot the name) but Hannah had to get JUST A PRANK BREH and fuck everything up.
In an attempt to save the girls from falling he kills the wendigo, freeing the spirit which would eventually posses Hannah and fuck everything up freeing the other wendigos that were captured already.

At the time Hannah was alive and the search party was looking there were no Wendigos free. They were all locked up in the asylum.
The spirit of the last wendigo flamethrower guy killed was free, but with no host to posses until Hannah caved in and dug up her sister.
After Hannah turned she managed to free some of the wendigos trapped, but only after.

Where is this explained in the game? I thought the wendingos were already free to roam the mountain, and the flamethrower guy was attempting to trap (so as not to release their spirits) those that escaped the asylum. It didn't seem like they would free each other, considering Hannah kills one or two toward the end just because.
