What does /v/ think of LA Noire?

It seems like one of those games you either love or hate.

I love GTA, True Crime, Sleeping Dogs and Saints Row. I knew going into LA Noire it was going to be different but I wanted to give it a try. After beating it, I can say it's not for me. Solving cases can be fun, but it's repetitive and can be exhausting. I enjoyed the more action-packed parts though.

Na'h, it's more of a game people love or moderately enjoy.
>>
loved it tbqh. took a while to get into, but it was worth it. trying to find anything else like it (or even gta) has been impossible though

I felt like it was trying to be too many things at once. Did them pretty decently, but the open world was pointless.

The main character is just unlikable though. I can't believe you don't even play as him in the end.
>>
>>333719693

No, but I want to.

Also, I remember playing Godfather for 360 years ago. I remember expecting it to be like GTA so I was disappointed and didn't play much of it. Looking back now and being more open-minded, I'd like to give it another shot. There were some really fun parts in hindsight.

It's my 2nd fav game of all time. I loved it but then again I played it without reading anything about it on the internet so maybe that helped
>>
>>333719469

bretty gud, albeit a little too linear. I'd love to see rockstar pull off the same sandbox/detective style in a 1970's action cop movie-style setting ala dirty harry

Danny, Ben, Miguel, Tristan and Teddy...
Full lips.
Rign any bells?
>>
One thing I hated about it was how whimsical interrogations felt sometimes. There were times where I would ask a question and I knew they were lying and had the proof to show it, but then you find out the real answer was doubt. This happened at least twice. I can't remember exactly which questions they were though.

Also, there were people that would look at you stonefaced and completely still so you'd think they were telling the truth, but the right answer ended up being doubt. On the contrary, there were people who were really nervous so you thought doubt would be correct, when really they were telling the truth. One example of this was the very first girl you interrogate at the jewelry store.
>>
It's pretty good the first play through but once you know the whole story of a case it just becomes a movie.
Integrations being the main gameplay can be very good of the person only makes subtle facial expression but weaker willed individuals will look like they're having a stroke. I think if the integrations were timed they wouldn't have to make some people so fucking obvious,
Combat is the regular rockstar lock on then shoot which ends up stale, making story and dialogue the main selling points of the game.
The atmosphere is great, there is a lot of attention to detail in the city and from what I hear is a pretty accurate representation of la.
I wish your partner would shut the fuck up when you're doing puzzles, I don't need you to hold my hand
Not a whole lot of replay value but a personal favorite of mine.
>>
It was fun but has almost no replay value. Once you've played through it or got spoiled on everything there's pretty much no reason to play it again.

Unrelated, but I heard this game had really troubled development and almost everyone who worked on it quit right after. Is this true?

Yes. Team Bondi doesn't exist anymore.
Brendan McNamara was a complete dick. The work environment was very unhealthy.

It was good, but doesn't really need to be open-world. Needed more shoot outs. Really hated how the main character becomes even more unlikable midway through the game.

Very poignant detail.
>>
It was interesting how the goody two shoes cop cheated on his wife.
Really didn't see it coming.
>>
>>333720257
You find a dudes broken glasses so you ask the wife why she said he just bought new glasses. You don't ask "if he's got new glasses why did we find a broken pair at his apparent murder scene." You scream "You whore, confess! You murdered the fucker!" I just wanted clarification that if he had new glasses why was an old pair there, for fucks sake. There's no "push the witness" there's only coddle or phone book the cunt. It made cases very black and white about how the devs wanted things to procdeed.

Long as you know you got caught you'll learn not to get caught again. Tis a horrible thing to have an anonymous post haunting your life after all.
>>
>wahhh wahhh it's not gta

The only thing i give them is the story getting shitty. Why the fuck did mr perfect detective decide to cheat.
>>
If you've never played an adventure game or a Phoenix Wright-type game it's probably going to look like the most revolutionary thing to happen to gaming.

If you've never read a book or watched a movie you'll perhaps think the story is phenomenal and the characters are amazing.

Otherwise, it'll look like a terribly flawed game that awkwardly focuses around a rather interesting concept.
>>
>>333719469
Faces didn't look realistic at all, even though that was their biggest selling point.
>>
>>333719469
Personally, I loved LA Noire. Later in the game it becomes a bit frustrating because it's so hard to read some of the characters later in the game, but I thoroughly enjoyed it for the most part.

Just wish it wasn't optimized so horribly and wish they would've done more with DLC. I have that urge every now and then to go back and play it again.
>>
Really enjoyed it but it eventually got super repetitive and I just got bored. Never finished it and don't really have much interest anymore
>>
I wish there was more to it because I fucking loved the setting and the soundtrack and all of the partners but the actual gameplay was pretty shite half the time and considering it's a story driven game, the writting was ass.
>>
>>333724986
>wish they would've done more with DLC
I still can't believe the DLC was just cut cases. They should have at least implemented the robbery desk.

I don't remember, was he actually demoted for cheating? That's fucked up.
>>
>>333719469
aside from them fucking up one of the most important gameplay features, it's not that bad.
>>
>>333726117
He was demoted because of the >muh morality and >muh corruption themes since it would look bad if one of the top detectives was a known adulterer, so they quietly shafted him down to the worst department.

This game was racist.

My 2nd favourite game of all time. They actually did something that noone did, the game was very innovative.

I liked it.

4/5.

The main game was pretty railroady and all the "extras" it just autistic car collecting. Also the face thing works pretty good usually but sometimes its just bad.
>>
I hated it. One of the most disappointing vidya for me ever.
>>
>>333726668

>>

It felt like an old school point and click adventure but this time in 3D GTA style. Nothing new really, but still pretty cool.
>>
I loved it's atmosphere and story. Very visually appealing. Sound track was fantastic.

Gun play and driving wasn't the best but that's not what the game is about

=REMINDER=

If you want more LA Noire, you can quite literally watch LA Confidential, the movie it was based on.
>>
Some of the dialogue is mediocre, but them you get hilarious stuff straight out of the movies, like the scene where Phelps goes batshit insane on the one guy about his dead wife.

The ending was shit though. I loved the game, but Phelps staying down to get killed by the rapids instead of just grabbing the guy's hand to live seemed like a real cop out. No pun intended.
>>
>>333732565
But that's not a game.
Just give me Whore of the Orient.
It's just not fair. ;_;
>>
>>333719469
Meh. It was fine but nothing special.

Never actually finished it though. I played almost to the end on xbox 360, got tired of it and never touched it again. Got a pc a few years later, got it on sale, played for 15 hours and then my saves for all my Rockstar games disappeared and nothing is driving me to try to replay it.
>>
it ok
>>
>>333726668
this
>>
I felt like it was kind of a big "fuck you" to the player for it to turn out that all of your convictions were people being framed, and that it was one crazy guy behind everything, even if there existed very suspicious evidence and perps who were not in any way acting like they were innocent the entire time.
>>
>30fps
>>
>>333719686

It's pretty good already on PC. I bought it at 80% off with all dlc on steam.
>>
Would really like another/similar game with a bit more nuance to it than "okay you're telling the truth", "bitch i know you did it just tell me the truth" and "FUCK YOU, I'LL MURDER YOUR WHOLE FAMILY!".

Actual dialog options would be nice rather than the simple 3 options of lie, doubt and truth. Depending on the dialog choices you make could give you more or less information to work with.
>>
>>333719469
>>333720998
>>333721132

>>333732565

>>
>>333737185

Even if you press doubt on statements you need more info about, it can still fail it. Which makes no sense.
>>
>>333719469
Garbage.

You literally cannot fail.

If you fuck up you just end up in a chase sequence and get the guy in the end anyways.

It's not a good game, or a fun game. I respect a game like Until Dawn despite it's numerous flaws, but LA Noire is just garbage.
>>
>>333735243
This so much, pretty bad storytelling.
>>
>>333736938
Open world doesn't automatically mean there has to be tons of sidemissions.
It can still have an open world and just be focused on the main story. It would be weird to have level based gameplay in this game.
>>
I just finished homicide desk, and it was really boring compared to traffic desk. Traffic desk really tried to think up different kinds of cases that could fall under the traffic label (street races, stolen cars, hit and run) while homicide desk deals with a serial killer, so all cases feel similar.
>>
>>333719469

The whole game should of been being in the life of a detective, not random cases that are connected by a thin barely coherent thread.
