Don't be afraid to look up the game's mechanics; there's a lot the game should have explained better, like how to kindle a bonfire and what that does.

Don't use a walkthough for the game's progression, though. I did for a couple parts and always regretted it.

You'd learn by experimenting. Or you'd pick a path and stick with it like I did. I started my first playthrough with a sword and shield like every other souls new fag and I turned it into a strength and faith build and threw lightning at people. Never knew it did bonuses or anything, but I was able to make it through eventually.

If you don't like that kind of game, don't play it.

You can easily beat Dark Souls with a sub-optimal build using Normal upgrade weapons and whatever you think is the best choice at the time.

You are currently experiencing something called analysis paralysis. If you simply take a course of action instead of agonizing over things you do not understand you will have a better experience than if you just sit there not knowing what to do.

I've experienced games games that didn't bludgen you with excessive tutorial. But I've also played games that were obtuse and needlessly vague. There's a button (select?) labeled 'describe stats' that describes every single stat you hover over. You are just dumb. You can generally figure them out, and you don't need a perfect build so even if you don't like how you specced something you'll be fine. Autistic about stats? Start a new game and do it right. My first character was an hour of me learning what I was doing because I never played before. My second character was level 20 in 3ish hours but I didn't like playing a magic user. 3rd character is a knight, just hit level 30 in 3ish hours - gonna out halberd those damn belfry gargoyles in a minute.

Areas being hidden isn't an argument in a game that blatantly uses exploration and backtracking. Also, your character has no idea what's going on or anything about the world they just entered - if your helpful handy tour guide handed you a lore book and told you that it was rock,paper,scissors where blah beats blah this would be an entirely different and wildly less fun and less enjoyable game.

Or you could just excerise a very small portion of your brain know for its ability to remember things. Hell, you can even just stare at the environments since there's no loading screens everything's connected and you can see where areas connect from other areas.

There's always something that feels a bit stiff and clunky about From games. I just accepted it in armored core because it sorta made sense but by Souls it stuck out like a sore thumb. Maybe the animation I guess.
