See my earlier remarks. How many people even cared about overwatch before the controversy? I don't watch television so I didn't see the spots there. I didn't know anything about Overwatch until the Tracer's butt fiasco.
I have no intention of buying the game but from a statistics standpoint I'm significantly more likely to purchase it now than I was before by simply being exposed to it. This effect is spread out among millions of people so even if the return is only 5 or 10% of those who viewed that's a hell of a profit. It's a numbers game where exposure translates to sales. These reasons include inferior pay, lack of respect from management, and lack of control. Thus, the tradesmen who do enter the industry tend to be garbage. Garbage programmers, garbage game designers, garbage writers. What do the dumbest people in the nerdy corners of the world tend to subscribe to? The waste scraps of the civil rights era.

This leads to people who aren't creative at all and think they are changing the world by adding their agendas to games. There are a bunch of things standing against your argument and in favor of mine here.
First, when Koei Tecmo was thinking about caving to feminists with DOA5, they mentioned that it was their western branch that told them to do it, and they were surprised to find out that the customer didn't agree with them.
Second, Tom's accounts of his days at XSeed. There is indeed a culture of developers seeing how much they can get away with censoring before the customer refuses to buy, and it's an uphill battle to convince them not to censor.
Third, we know that people working at NISA have agendas against fanservice.
Fourth, we know that Treehouse is staffed by SJWs from their tweets.
Fifth, both EA and Ubisoft have deliberately attempted to leverage victimbucks (and failed miserably, because they don't buy games, and normies don't like them).

There are a load of people in the industry who are SJW, due to the industry's lack of proper professionalization and subsequent low standards. They've remained that way as they've moved around companies (let's give a cheer for nepotism, which also helps ensure that the industry remains full of people who agree with the narrative), so it's not just an act that they put on for publicity for one particular company. There's also plenty of stories around about this stuff being legit, not an act put on by people. There are a bunch of signs pointing towards my theory, and not a lot of evidence behind yours.
It's probably useless to continue this conversation any further, though. You're convinced, no matter out of line with reality your theory might be.
