I never understood this joke. I've eaten plenty of spice food and never had a problem. I love Indian and Thai food. I had Thai hot one time during the middle of summer outdoors in South Florida. Never again.
And fun fact: all the peppers the Asians and Indians use in their dishes are from the new world. Before European traders and colonization, they used white and black pepper, tarumand (sp?), ginger, etc.
Plus I pour in a bunch of crackers.

I would personally recommend blue corn tortilla chips if you can find them. They have a heartier taste and they also just so happen to be slightly better for you (not that it matters)
Just don't get flavored ones. Salted works just fine.
