How come /v/ can never have a decent discussion about this game without Undertale cringeboys shitting up the thread?
First of all, Toby Fox's game was heavily inspired by the Mother series and second of all it's redundant to compare and declare Overratedtale's game design superior to Mother's, because Mother was made in the dark ages of game design. People still had to figure out what mechanics and set ups make a game good, while in this age any game developer has the advantage of learning what is good and bad. What works and what not.
Mother is obviously flawed, but it was an underrated gem in its time.

Undertale is completely barebones compared to Mother 2, I don't get why'd you think there's any sort of comparison between the two.
Personally I think Earthbound is hugely overrated and a rather flawed game in some respects, but it's vastly superior to LE DETERMINATION MEME and of some cultural value within the context of video games.

Earthbound is a generic jrpg in a unusual setting with some nice absurdity to it. Undertale is a deconstruction of the genre looking at the common cliches and gameplay elements from a completely new angle. That's like comparing 50s Superman comics to Watchmen or Dragonball Z to Evangelion,
