How do people exactly discover secrets in Dark Souls?

I'm not talking about discovering which chest is a mimic or illusory walls, mind you.

How did they, for example, discover that in order to join the Warriors of Sunlight covenant you had to have a certain amount of faith? Or even better, that the requirement for the amount of faith points decreased with every boss you helped someone defeat?

From are hacks, through and through. Every single souls game from Demons to Dark Souls 3 is obtuse as fuck not because the developers want you to learn, but because they are utter hacks. A huge amount of shit is never explained to you simply because of this.

The answer to how you get around this is guides and wikis. If you go in blind you are certainly going to miss out on a massive amount of content.
>>
>>333604453
Official explanation is that Miyazaki wanted an item to troll people with. They did the exact same thing in one of the King's Fields games.

Lore explanation would be >>333604558 as you won't go hollow if you have something keeping you going.

There is a difference between holding your hand and being completely unjustified in the content you hide.
>>
>>333605725
>A huge amount of shit is never explained to you
>If you go in blind you are certainly going to miss out on a massive amount of content.

You can beat the entire game normally just by wandering around the world exploring everything. I had no idea you had to go to the giant trees in ds2 but I went back to FoTFG because I remembered there was a king's door. I saw the glowing tree and activated it wondering what the fuck it did.
>>
>>333605725
How exactly is it unjustified? Their intent was to fill the game with secrets they never expected anyone to find out on their own during their first or even second playthrough. They wanted the game to feel fresh each time you played it. Maybe you're just too casual to appreciate it.
>>
>>333605895
>You can beat the entire game normally just by wandering around the world exploring everything.
Again, how is this relevant to what I was talking about? Thats rhetorically by the way I really dont give a shit. Stay on topic or dont post.

>>333605930
>Their intent was to fill the game with secrets they never expected anyone to find out on their own during their first or even second playthrough
Having hard to find secrets is one thing, but there are a huge number of features and content that is literally impossible to find unless you stumble upon it by pure chance. No thought, no skill, no hints or even slight suggestions of their existence. Not to mention entire gameplay features are poorly explained or not explained at all.

I love the entire series, but you are an absolute moron if you think it isnt obtuse as fuck for any reason other than From incompetence and expectancy that people will read guides to solve their undecipherable bullshit.
>>
>>333602305

Devs talk about it online after the game is released because they can't help themselves.

Or more likely, with millions of people analyzing one thing all at once it becomes incredibly difficult to keep every aspect of that thing hidden. One person looking for one other person in a forest is an almost impossible task. But multiply the seeker by a hundred and then a hundred again.
>>
>>333606216
>Not to mention entire gameplay features are poorly explained or not explained at all.
Everything is explained in the starting areas or via a early NPC.

>DeS, messages literally covering an entire section in the nexus, NPCs in nexus explain the basics
>DaS, Messages on the ground on your way out, NPCs that explain the basics in first area

>DS2, same as ds1 but placed in areas specifically to test them out, NPCs that explain everything in first area

DS3 will probably do the exact same thing. Stop being fucking oblivious to everything and running like a headless chicken through the game.
>>
>>333606216
>impossible to find unless you stumble upon it by pure chance. No thought, no skill, no hints or even slight suggestions of their existence.

Again, that was the intent. Whether or not you thought it was acceptable is irrelevant. It's entirely optional stuff that has no impact on the core gameplay anyway. I do agree with you about the lack of information regarding core mechanics being a problem. That alone forces people to look stuff up, which is a slippery slope that usually results in people reading about secrets they were meant to discover on their own, likely by chance.

As long as you managed to find the back entrance to Iosefka's Clinic (which should be simple enough since one of the most important parts of playing these games is exploring every little nook and cranny), finding Cainhurst should be easy. >Silver Serpent Ring
>Too hidden

You literally watch some giant rolling balls fall in a hole and stack up, and then they break a wall.

This is the exact problem that certain people have with half the people that play these games. They don't take time to explore or investigate their surroundings. It's like the comic with the observational player versus the artificial difficulty player.

For me, I found the ring because I followed the rolling ball down, saw the hole had a ladder, climbed down it and saw the balls were stacking and wondered what happened when they reached the top.
If you had trouble figuring that out, Souls isn't for you.

The silver serpent ring was in the tomb. You had to fall of a ledge near the 2nd bonfire in the area and fight some skelly towers. I found it by running through once and having something (probably those fucking alligator skeletons) bite me and I fell onto said ledge. So not that crazy to think people would find it and that share the knowledge. To your point about the golden ring tho, I agree wholeheartedly

You have to drop of a ledge in the Tomb of Gints, next to a corpse. The ground that you land on can't be seen from above because it's too dark.
>>
>>333611448
Oh right, the ledge drop. I remember seeing the item on top of a ledge I couldn't get to and followed the cliff back to the spot where the archer was.

Once again, an observational thing. This one was a little more tricky, but definitely doable.

I would argue that finding Vamos or obtaining Grant properly (ie: having to summon Paladin Leeroy for Pinwheel, otherwise he doesn't drop his equipment when you kill him as an invader) would be more obtuse, but even then, it's not bad if you keep your eyes open and focus on exploration.

This. They aren't all that common, easily avoided if you do find one, and the watchdog addon filters them out for you if you're playing DaS

Most of the cheaters are shitters anyway. I once got invaded by some colorful named guy in the Ivory king dlc cathedral with a lightning spear chucking sword and crazy ass long jump attacks with tracking, and ended up beating his shit just because other than the cheated stuff and abilities, he had no clue how to play the fucking game

Literally the most overrated secret in the series, I found it no problem. Just from looking around I saw that there was a spiral staircase in the tower, but I was unable to find a way to it. So when I got to the elevator, it was obvious for me to jump off at the landing there, if not for the staircase than for some item hidden away. From there it was just a matter of noticing the obvious buttress that connected to the staircase.

Also, the stray demon was a fun boss fight

Literally with a guide or spend a shit ton of hours inspectioning every inch of the game.
For example in order to reach The great hollow and Ash lake you must hit an illusionary wall behind another illusionary wall inside a tree in the middle of lower Blighttown.

Shit was fucking stupid.

Have you other thought that just aimlessly wandering around isn't fun? Exploration of new areas is but not scouring the same fucking area to look for some minor detail you missed.

There are just too many places where one could potentially drop a prism stone that I didn't bother with them until crystal cave.

By complete accident. There's no information given in game to explain any part of the lore besides the opening cutscene.
