About the wing.
I'm almost certain it's supposed to relate to Sephiroth being the one winged angel.
So they made Cloud the one winged demon as opposite.
His whole costume is meant to be edgy/grim for the sake he's searching for Aerith, and has to work with Hades just to find her because he made a deal with him.
