Nope.
>>
>>333529390
Which version are you playing? I have the Sonic Gems Collection version, and the load times are quick.
>>
>>333529390

What part of "CD" do you not understand?

But in all honesty, the time it takes depends on version. Gems Collection has the fastest transition, but only because it is technically inaccurate to the original (special stages move at double speed, and the water in Tidal Tempest is near-invisible in Gems Collection, among other things).
>>
>>333529698
ok, maybe not 30 seconds, but this shit is unnacceptable, I tried it out on my Gamecube with a friend's disc of a collection of Sonic games

I need someone to mod the PC version to not have those long-ass animations, fuck. With today's hardware we should be able to run all 3? 4? versions of the stage at the same time, easily

>>333529914
>Gems Collection has the fastest transition
oh jesus christ, I can only imagine how long it'd take on a Genesis
>>
What an absolutely glorious game. Sega should just give up making shit games and go back to doing original sonics. They don't even need to improve the graphics, they just have to make more ffs.
>>
>>333529914
I didn't even notice the speed difference when I got Gems Collection. I should pop it back in and see.
>>
>>333529997

On an actual Sega CD, it takes a few seconds from the white fade to get to the animation part, and a few more seconds after that's played to hear the music.

The HD port is the best version anyway, so no matter what just play that one.
>>
>>333530295
I'll only play it when I find a way to replace that horrid jump sfx, thank you very much
>>
>>333528442
Honestly whenever I play Sonic CD I always feel like it could have been a lot,lot better

They finally perfected the formula with Sonic 3 & Knuckles the following year

CD has so many great ideas that could have been executed better

>Great art style
But horrible art/graphic direction...everything looks so flat compared to Sonic 3 and a lot of times some stuff feels unfinished

>Interesting level design that's different from the main trilogy but fun none-the-less
But with the glaring fault of the levels being way too short and once you get done time traveling/fixing the future running through the level really feels underwhelming and not really fun(and if you play the game without trying to break the generators/explore it feels even more underwhelming)

>Wacky Workbench
What were they fucking thinking?

>Metallic Madness act 2
Confusing as shit level...really annoying

>Bosses only take 3 hits
Fucking heresy Sonic Team...FUCKING HERESY I SAY
>>
>>333530413

I'm certain there is a way to do that in the Steam version. Someone replaced Sonic entirely with Metal as a mod, so replacing sounds shouldn't be out of the question if it bothers you that much.

It's not inaccurate
It's a port of the 1996 PC Version which has the Special Stage running at 60fps

>>333529997
In the '96 PC Port you have the option of disabling those animations entirely

The 2011 remaster is the best version overall although...

>Music is compressed because they decided to use the 510 Beta Versions which have loops
>"You can do Anything" and "Cosmic Eternity" are not in it because of Lyrics Rights(they got them sorted later...but Sega doesn't give a shit so they will probably never patch them in)
>Cropped 16:9 cutscenes

The good side of this is that you can probably mod the uncompressed Sega CD Music in

Has some good new shit like
>Playable Tails
>Sonic 2 Spindash
>>
>>333531846
>music is now compressed
how is that a plus? and you can't disable the animations like in the 96 port? how come in 96 the PC got a port of Sonic CD, let alone have it be able to disable those animations while the Genesis couldn't do it?
>>
>>333530057
>Sega should just give up making shit games and go back to doing original sonics.
They tried 6 years ago and the result was that turd called "Sonic 4" that I'd rather forget it ever existed

>It's a port of the 1996 PC Version which has the Special Stage running at 60fps

For a frame-dependent game, this means the special stages ARE moving at double speed than what they should be, maybe even faster. It's inaccurate to the Sega CD original, because the Gems Collection version is a port of an already inaccurate PC version. The HD version fixes all of these issues.

The US soundtrack sounds like it's fitting to the stages
The JP soundtrack sounds like it's fitting to Sonic

The JP one is just straight up techno/house music that feels like you could have come across in the late 80s...in fact music in most sonic games feels like "real music" but it sort of almost always fits sonic for some reason...but it's definitely the most noticeable in the Jap OST of Sonic CD

The physics are definitely way off but I thought Generations's classic level design was good.
>>
I tried playing sonic CD recently because I really love the music but I just found it to be really meh.

I've never found 2D sonic to be very compelling despite my love for platformers. Sonic is always moving too fast or too slow and the levels always seem to be designed to annoy the player with backwards springs everywhere. The time travel mechanic sounded cool but really it didn't really add anything to the game for me. Like, as far as I could tell there isn't any point in travelling through time.

I still believe that the old sonic games have GOAT music but sonic is honestly my least favourite 2D platforner and I honestly enjoy adventure style and boost to win style more than 2D sonic.
>>
>>333540107
>I thought Generations's classic level design was good.
It wasn't 2bh
It was pretty barebones
In the first level right on the go you have scripted sequence when you run on that wood bridge or whatever it is

Sure it was slightly better than Sonic 4's Dimps bullshit-tier level design but that's not saying much

The level design felt pretty similar to 2D Unleashed and not so much the classic games...especially on fucking Classic Planet Wisp which was Colors-tier bullshit don't even get me started on that one

This. You have to learn how Sonic moves, you have to learn how levels are laid out. Doing so allows you to go fast, do tricks, and overall speedrun the game better.

That's what the games are about.
>>
>>333541210
I don't see it. They Saturn versions are nicely atmospheric but the Genesis Rusty Ruin Zone tracks are excellent. Just really catchy with a lot going on.
>>
>>333542128

>>
>>333542294

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZV5UNS2y60

also not physics related but the levels are filled with secrets and they're very fun to explore...especially the levels in 3&K like Marble Garden Zone which is a huge ass level and I often find new things I didn't know before in that zone

The Jetzons was an early 80s New Wave band
Brad Buxer was a keyboardist for them(and eventually for Michael Jackson in the 90s)

He basically took one of the songs from his old band and turned it into what you know as Ice Cap Zone

When I said art direction I meant the graphics
Sonic 3 had this sort of "pseudo 3D" look to it...not really 2D but it had this depth to it's look which made it more pleasing to look at imo then the previous game in the series

CD definitely looks flatter, but at least it kept the geometric abstraction from the first game, and maybe even took it too far. But I guess that's what they were going for considering it takes place on another planet.

S3&K had beautiful backgrounds, but they were a little too detailed and naturalistic at times. Hidden Palace is the only one I can think of that wouldn\t feel too out of place in Sonic 1/CD.

My only problem with the US track is the fact that it's incomplete cuz there are no past tracks

It's still good, but since a good chunk of it is the JP track I can't call it the better one

>but they were a little too detailed and naturalistic at times.
That's what they were going for...so in that sense they suceeded

>Hidden Palace is the only one I can think of that wouldn\t feel too out of place in Sonic 1/CD.
Carnival Night too and to some extent Hydrocity and Marble Garden

Death Egg and Flying Battery feel kinda like Death Egg(Sonic 2) and Wing Fortress too

My point is that it's a shame we never got to see CD/1 art style with that Pseudo 3D kinda look 3 had

>mfw new Sonic games just play generic rock music

I miss the days when Sonic games used to be good.
>>
>>333554901
word. rock just doesn't mesh with its feel.
sonic sounds much better with electronic music, like the synth pop of the genesis games or the house/techno of cd.
>>
>>333554901
Me to, 2008-2011 was great. To bad about all those other years
>>
>>333554901
A lot of the newer 3D games favor other instruments and genres more now as opposed to just rock like the earlier 3D Sonic games. And Sonic Colors and Generations are solid games.

A Sonic CD sequel would work very well with a tasteful use of vaporwave aesthetic.

With Lost World I think they were going too far in whatever direction they were headed, but that might be because they were trying to ape Mario Galaxy so hard. There were a lot of exceptions but I felt a trend. Sonic Runners was last thing that produced original music and it feels more "sonicy" than Lost World. I can't really put words to it though.

It really doesn't play out like a Sonic game at all though. At most it took Sonic's general movement mechanics and a few gimmicks like springs. It is more akin to Sonic Rush than classic Sonic where the focus in on character abilities and not as much the terrain. Honestly that's for the better since it carves out its own high speed combat platformer genre.

Classic Amy is way better in terms of looks. I don't know if classic Amy is given much character in the comics, so I'm unaware of what her character and personality is like if she actually has one, but modern Amy is insufferable, and Boom Amy is a more enjoyable character and has some good moments.

I remember playing it in sonic gems collection, but I probably savescummed and I think I started using cheatcodes about 70% in.
