Forgot to mention it's a hiking simulator and the map is terrible.

NPCS being unmovable tanks. I had an escorts missing and stepped into an are to check it out and the npc followed. Was trapped inside and unable to push them out of the way. Argonian and kahjit crouch walk animation is horrible and poorly designed. Dropping a ring or small item by mistake in the wrong spot can lead to it being hidden under an unmovable item. These are nitpicky things though, overall still in my top 3 of favorite games. Just needs a few mods that fix issue with it and it's perfect.

I love Morrowind, I really do, but let me point out GLARING flaws in gameplay;

The chance to miss with weapons is hilariously bad until you raise your skills. Granted, this makes sense; you're inexperienced, so you're not going to hit ALL the time. However, missing a slow-moving crab with a giant mallet because you don't have a high enough two-handed skill with maces? That's more horseshit than /mlp/. I could hit a crab with a sledgehammer right now, and I've never used a sledgehammer. I know for a fact I could.

>Bad directions
The map is pretty bad. Without mods, the map only shows a tiny amount. They built up the fantasy part well, but their sense of giving directions was ass. A bit cryptic at times for no reason. It wasn't ALL bad, but a large portion of the NPC directions were ass.

This sounds cool on paper, but holy fuck it's stupid. If you do something wrong, and you somehow managed to forget to save prior, you can't beat the game. There's a few alternate routes, like Yagrum "fixing" the glove, but otherwise it's bad design.

I loved Bloodmoon and Tribunal to an extent, but both had their share of outright stupid writing. Let's not get started on Almalexia's hilariously bad walking animation.

Install Tribunal and Bloodmoon.
Bethesda fixed it when they released Tribunal so as to allow players to view the journal by quest as opposed to having every quest update flaked in together.

That was fixed by the Tribunal expansion which came out the same year that the original game released. Did you disable it or do you not have the GOTY edition? If you're playing the original version I'd at least pirate the expansions and make sure the game is fully patched.

I understand where you're coming from. There's a lot of people who like it for the lore alone. It's impressive that people who don't even really like it as a game can still rank it among their favorites for the worldbuilding alone.

But I'm on the other side of the spectrum. The world and lore are nice but it's the game itself that's so appealing to me. They threw so many features and so much content in and just let it all interact as it did, without placing any arbitrary limits on the player, instead letting the consequences of the mechanics themselves dictate what you can and can't do. My playthroughs of Morrowind are so vastly different to each other. I've played pacificts, summoners, burglars, lived in dozens of different houses and caves, stolen from the Thieves Guild, slaughtered every slaver, made my own fast travel network with teleportation spells and trapping all the transport NPCs in my house, completed the main quest in three different ways and completely ignored it a dozen other times, and even killed a god and polished my boots with his soul.

No matter what weird character type you can think of you can bet that there's dozens of quests and at least a faction or two that can support your playstyle. Even a merchant type character is viable because most items aren't level scaled, so you can build up wealth and buy much more powerful equipment than the average adventurer would be finding in the caves they can handle at early levels. It's a shame that there's no real followers and you can't give items for your slaves to equip, so you can't play a merchant who relies on mercenaries without mods.
