I'm really curious to see just what it's going to be like. Is their detection thing basically going to be a Kinect or something else? Just how is the cloud computing shit going to work on it? It's pretty cool how they're going to switch back to cartridges. Since it uses cartridges, it'd be really fucking neat if it doubled as a Gameboy Player but for 3DS games or something. I really can't wait to see what the controller looks like and how it works.

Wii U was a gimmick console that never actually used the gimmick because it wasn't well thought out. It has many good games but almost all of them could play on any console. The Wii's gimmick was poorly used in most cases but in some cases it worked out well (Sin and Punishment).

What the fuck are you talking about? Only a handful of SM64 levels were random shit in space, and they at least had a coherent theme instead of just being floating plaforms scattered around.
Both games had great direction. Sunshine even had a nice overworld that tied all of the areas together and was interesting to explore versus the typical Mushroom Kingdom/vanilla Mario setting that Nintendo has been pushing.
Galaxy wasn't bad, but it was boring and linear with no real exploration. The music was godly, though, and it did have a lot of content.
SM3DW also had a great OST and I thought it did have cool stuff to collect and the bonus worlds.
Neither Galaxy or SM3DW can really compare to SM64/SMS though. The open world collectathon was great. Before you complain about blue coins, nobody forced you to get them. They weren't the greatest idea, but they did give you a reason to fully explore the areas.

The thing is, the 2DS is already a cheap as fuck handheld. It's $99 new, and even less if you buy a Nintendo refurbished one. eShop titles are cheap as fuck and plentiful as phone games, and the 3DS has a really strong library of actual games. Not to mention you can easily hack it to enable piracy.
I can't really see a logical reason to create a handheld line parallel to the 3DS, even if it's cheaper. Everyone has a phone and the 3DS is still selling like hotcakes. If you want a return to the Gameboy name, you'd want to wait until after the 3DS' lifespan is over.
