I've gone a few times. The first was a few months after I started HRT and transitioned. I didn't think it would be a big deal but I kept on having roving gangs of weirdos hovering over me and awkwardly hitting on me until I found a cute guy to protect me.

I have been to firstlook. Which is the only gaming event worth anything here in the Netherlands. It's a crowded shithole if you don't get vip tickets (which are more expensive but you get to go in 2 hours earlier). It was fun, mostly nerd, some dudebros and some cosplay chicks. Booth babes galore as well. You get to play games which aren't out yet, some competetions and give aways. A good time till it gets stuffed full.

MAGfest is pretty cozy. Nice arcade setup, okayish console setup, other neat places like the old computer room filled with stuff from commodore to win95. All running 24 hours so if I needed a break from hopping rooms for parties, can chill out and play CvS2 or tetris grandmaster.

Best thing about magfest though, and the reason I go to it still while not going to other cons and stuff, is the 24 hour nature of it. The arcade room being open non stop. I stopped giving a shit about cons when I realized that I didn't even care about the panels or being paying to get overcharged in the market rooms. Always open arcade is something I can get behind though.

Been going to PAX East since 2012, and this year might be my last one (maybe)
I love going to PAX, get to meet new people, try new games, I also like tabletop stuff, so it's great for that as well.
Panels I feel have been lacking in the recent years. Before, I had so many panels. The last 2 years, barely any I want to go to.
Also. the safe space was hilarious, and I think it was an awesome idea. Keeps the grabage fairly contained.
I just need to focus on stuff in my life. I'm actually working on a game, and want to earn my next trip to PAX. Next time I go, it's because I'm shilling my game. Realistically, that might be 2-3 years from now.
If you live on the east coast, PAX East is awesome. Would recommend if you can even get tickets.

My MMO guild and its online friends (total normies but really friendly, many girls as well) have regular meet-ups. They plan one again in in a month, I was invited as well.

Not really a con, but I went to some local event to learn tabletop 40k. It was only me, some black weeb, and the guy hosting the event. It was alright. The guy wasn't as autistic as most 40k tabletop players I've met so it was actually pretty fun.
Besides that I usually go to Friday night magic events at my local comic shop. Mostly just neckbeards, skinny skeletions, and some normal looking people. Usually only 2-3 girls, but most of the time they're landwhales.

Did visit the vidya room at local con once, they were in the process of trying to get more Wiis and gamecubs for brawl because despite having a 50/50 split between traditional fighters like SF4, Marvel, BB, people only wanted to play brawl or melee. Everyone in there was overweight or had furry tails and ears
I've gone to EVO for the past 5 years. Shits pretty much what you would expect from a typical 'nerdy' type convention, just replace all the cosplayers with tournament players.
Safe to say it's about 50/50 in terms of normal lookin, presentable dudes with jobs and social lives, and full on NEET neckbeards.

Worth mentioning though that the %50 of the NEET neckbeard group got a hell of alot fatter, smellier, louder, and just all around more unpleasant by tenfold as soon as Smash became a thing.

A local convention moved to a convention center with a waterpark a number of years ago and started hosting a cosplay swimsuit contest. Results were mostly good and 90% female.

How bad do convention halls tend to smell?
I've been to a few GDQs. It's a great place to play a ton of games you've never heard of before. Plus if you know the people there it's a million times more fun.
I went to an anime convention, which is just as bad if not worse. I consider it one of the worst decisions of my life, along with clubbing and heroine.

Other cons I've been to just don't have the same focus on games. Katsu and Otakon just became too much for me when the anime fandom passed me by. Magfest is still great even with it's size and I don't really know why. I just know the reason I love it is the large focus on the arcade room with no closing it down. It is defiantly more subdued then other cons I've been to and I like that as well.

I've had fun when i've gone to Eurogamer and Razzed, plenty of games to try, lots of lines, but still most of the PC titles are easy to get on.
Some of the panels are pretty interesting, possibly the most fun part, seeing people talk about their games and doing demos of them.

Never gone to a gaming specific convention, but have gone to general conventions, and at some of them I played a lot on my DS. I've also gotten to try dancing game, which I like, and classic games.
In general I don't have that much of a passion for video games, so conventions only for gaming doesn't seem that interesting. I prefer anime and cosplay.
Used to go to pokemon tournaments, when they were held where I lived, and that was really nice. Also went to the national pokemon TCG championships, and got even pokemon for my GBA and tried Wii games with other people and traded and battled and talked about pokémon. Really nice experiences.
Oh, and HUGE DS meetups in the city, with more than 50 people and such. We all played Mario Kart DS and it was awesome, and people showed interesting games and special colour DSes imported from Japan, and once there even was a Virtual Boy there, but I was too shy to ask to try, which I regret.

Bought my ticket for Dreamhack Austin because it's only a few hours drive and one of my buddies was going.
