http://www.destructoid.com/doom-s-post-launch-dlc-detailed-includes-40-season-pass-353568.phtml

>Doom, a game that is five weeks from release, has at least $45 worth of post-launch content planned. Never mind the fact that we don't have any idea if Doom will actually be any good. If you're buyin', they're sellin'. The cart is in front of the horse, Bethesda.

>In a press release issued this morning, Bethesda outlined its plans for Doom DLC. Three "premium multiplayer packs" will arrive in the months following launch. The first one is scheduled for the summer and includes: three maps, one weapon, one playable demon, one armor set, one piece of equipment, new hack modules and taunts, and new customization colors and patterns. Each multiplayer pack will be $14.99.

I'm pirating it anyways. After playing the beta, I couldn't give two shits about the multiplayer. I'm still interested in the single player though, the story leak had me grinning like an edgy middle schooler.
>>
>>333463146
Urghh....

This shit didn't work with Call Of Duty, nobody liked the "Premium maps", but they were only successful because it was COD.

This is Doom, this will not work; no one is going to pay for fucking multiplayer maps for a game that should've been a single player game, with multiplayer.

Fuck, I hate Bethesda.

Was going to buy this, but I'm going to pirate the shit out of it.

It's funny how if there was no DLC, no one would bitch. But because there's OPTIONAL content in a season pass, entitled children will complain.

Newsflash you dense morons: AAA budgets are swelling up yearly, while games are not only not rising in price to match the budget increase, they're actually getting CHEAPER. And since you entitled manchildren think that a game with dozens of hours of quality content from blood, sweat, and tears of hundreds of devs isn't worth more than a lousy $5 on a Steam sale, or for some of you scumbag pirates, $0 because you just fucking steal it, THIS is how they have to earn their damn money back. God forbid a huge dev team actually be able to eat and support their family after pouring their time and effort into a massive project like this.

I wish people would just collectively stop buying these games with season passes on release day so publishers would eventually stop. We have the power to manipulate the free market and as consumers we don't even take advantage of it and instead accept every bullshit practices these companies come up with.
>>
>>333463331
Its destiny, right? Titanfall did it first and their designs were bearable.
>>
>>333465060
Fuck off idiot. Not buying season passes wouldn't stop season passes from appearing, it would just cause studio closures in the short term, and an MSRP increase of game prices in the long term.
>>

>AAA budgets are swelling up yearly

Its true but doesnt really have anything to do with anything but bad business practice.

Witcher 3 was the best RPG to come out in possibly ever, had less than a quarter of other, more restrictive games budgets. Then they released expansions that actually added good shit to the game, after provided some free DLC.

Metro: Last Light was one of the best single player shooters to come out in a long ass time and that only cost 5 hot pockets and a couple frozen ukrainians.

This game will probably be a passable shooter, but it will also have an amazingly ballooned budget.

Kys shill
>>
>>333465545
I don't buy them, but when the alternate is less risky games developed and more rehashed garbage, a games MSRP increase, and studio closures, I'll fully support a publisher's decision to include them.

>>333465650

>>
>>333465583
this, its not that budgets are getting retarded, its that they are pointlessly getting retarded.

better games can be made with less people and with less money, but, the AAA companies can't do that for one reason.

you can't "Conveyor Belt" a game out every year without a huge list of idiots who can only do 1 thing on your team.

Video Games were never supposed to be "mass produced" like they are now, through infinite sequels yearly.
>>
>>333463874
maybe if they didnt sink half a billion on marketing then it wouldnt be so bad
>>
>>333465765
For every success story, you see dozens of failures. Sequels and unimaginative, unrisky games are a safe option, and this is why microtransactions and season passes are good (WHEN PROPERLY IMPLEMENTED, let me just get that out of the way) because they allow for more niche and risky games to succeed. This is also why I fully support a digital future because margins are better, especially with deep sales.
>>
>>333463874
games have been overpriced for years. stop bitching. nes games used to be 50 bucks, and you had no clue if they were good or not. 140 dollars for a videogame is absurd. they purposely realease unfinished games b/c theyre too lazy to make anything great and want to jew the system
>>
>>333465837
Marketing budget has a direct impact on revenue. One of the fastest ways to a massive blunder is little or poor marketing. Even Witcher didn't see mainstream success until they went to consoles and spent tens of millions on marketing

>Multiplayer Focus

Have fun alienating your entire fanbase, Bethesda.
>>
>>333465690
We're already in a situation where original ideas for new IP's are thrown out because they don't bode well with investors. Games were $60 on release without season passes like half a decade ago and were still profitable to keep the industry afloat, there's no reason we can't go back to that. Maybe some pissy publishers would close some studios in the wake of people not buying their season pass bullshit but I'm willing to take that sacrifice if it means we don't get double charged in the future.
>>
Why is this game not quake 3 with demons?.
Can't help but think of the evolve fiasco
>>
>$45 dollars worth of post-release content

i'm starting to hate myself for convincing two bros to get this game with me.
>>
>>333465975
the video game market got strong off the back of actually well made games and not the Sequalitis we are living in now, which is causing a huge slump.

Giant mega-companies with their Giant-Mega budgeted game (that lasts 4 hours) are the parasite leeching off the past to make their profits.

that's why we only get sequels and remakes of games from glory's past.

hence "Doom 4" here, it will be an entirely forgettable single player game living off the name Doom, crafted by a bunch of code-monkies who don't give a single shit about it.
>>
>>333465765

I mean...the budget for Skyrim was ~100 million, with development and marketing.

Witcher 3 was ~81 million after development and marketing.

Just compare those games in actual scope, variety of content, overall fucking polish and quality. Skyrim doesn't even come fucking close.
>>
>>333463874
games are only swelling in price because of ~~Marketing~~

there is no god damn reason these games need upper multi million dollar budgets in the 8 or 9 figure range.
>>
>>333465975
>and this is why microtransactions and season passes are good (WHEN PROPERLY IMPLEMENTED, let me just get that out of the way) because they allow for more niche and risky games to succeed

>>333466198
The cost of AAA development has increased substantially in recent years while price has decreased.
>>
>>333466441
Rainbow Six Siege.

More niche and risky game with a well implemented microtransaction/season pass that allowed it to achieve greater financial success.

The industry is consolidating to AAA monoliths and indies/kickstarters, with little room for AA in the middle.

With the exception of devs like Rockstar, seems most of the innovation nowadays comes from indie devs.

Say what you want about 343i but offering all of maps for free for Halo 5 was the best thing for the community. Yeah the microtransactions were a little sleazy but at least they don't have a $45 season pass that's going to fuck the community.

Fuck off retard. I have bought maybe 5-10 pieces of DLC in my entire life and I've never felt games are getting skimpier on content because of DLC. If anything I can get great games for dirt cheap on PSN and Steam sales, then pick up an expansion later down the line if I really enjoyed the game. Literally just don't fucking buy the DLC if it doesn't interest you. New Vegas, Resogun, The Evil Within, Civ V, GTAIV, etc. only a select few games actually have worthwhile DLC.
