All maps are free. They release characters that you can buy with the earnable ingame money (renown), the buyable ingame money (R6 Credits) or with the season pass (if you have the pass you'll also get the new characters a week earlier than everyone else).

The 2 characters they've released so far cost 25K renown, you earn probably about 350 renown per match on casual, and there are daily challenges to earn more renown too.

There are also weapon skins, some of them can only be bought with renown, some can only be bought with R6 credits and some can be bought with one or the other

Really the only reason anyone will be spending money on dlc is if they are impatient and really want the new characters right now , or if they want a garish coat of paint on their gun. I've played for about 100 and haven't even been tempted to pay for anything.

The DLC model is actually fantastic for a AAA game. All the maps are free, and all the future operators can be unlocked with in game money. All the season pass does is give you the operators for free and a week early.
If you play the game regularly getting enough dosh for the new characters is a cake walk
