The pursuit of graphical power was a mistake. Both for consoles and PC.
On consoles it's just a useless endeavor, and on PCs it's just a marketing tool to sell more GRAFIX cards for huge amounts of money.
The pursuit of better graphics was a mistake. We should have left it all as it was on last gen and never touch it again, and put a focus on performance and better ideas. A 4 player co-op for FFXV is not only on par with that the story is supposed to be about, but it's also a selling point for the game.
Fuck this world and I hope I die soon.

The funniest part is that, if it weren't for poor optimization of games and Nvidia's attempts to gimp older/competing cards with deliberately unoptimized features, we wouldn't need such powerful cards in the first place. On average, graphics haven't really improved that much since Crysis.

Agree, anon. Graphics didn't even get that much better, yet the prices and specs climbed sky high, especially on the PC. And yet, we still have limitations of number of characters/objects on screen, no coop, unstable framerates, etc. And to top it all off, devs can get away with not optimizing anything at all, and still not get shit on for it.
The industry as a whole is a joke compared to 10-15 years ago.

What they should do for graphics is put average textures and focus on lightning.
MGSV looks really good even though it has a low poly count because of the lightning, and this game runs on toasters.
