Learn to use his buttons in the neutral game, they are really strong. Cr.mk and mk are super nice.
For his offense it would really help to understand framedata and setups. Many of his things leave his opponents guessing after he manages to start his shit.
Generally speaking I'd rather recommend someone like Birdie to a beginner, he's like a more defensive Alex. They have a lot in common, like their mks are pretty much the exact same button and their overheads are mega long which is nice for some bullying.

The difference between a ryu doing a shoryu on wakeup and mike doing something that looks like a cross under but might not be in the corner is that if you block the shoryu then you're going to get 30-50% damage off a crush counter, so they're not going to just do it, and if they do just do it, you should have a read on them and be able to bait/block it the second time and then you win the match.
If you're getting srk'd every time, look at exactly when you got srk'd and when you get to that point in your unsafe pressure string that clearly isn't a blockstring, just do nothing, you lose nothing since you were already hitting a blocking opponent. If you walked forward into it, respect the spacing and use better pokes less predictably.

What separates Zangief and Mika is that Zangief gives up all of his pressure if he lands an air grab, jab SPD, or calls you out for holding up and hits you with a bunch of buttons. Mika has a vortex. Brimstone leaves you at her feet and she can do it again, or she can meaty you and all the combos leave her on top of you and very advantageous. If Zangief doesn't land EX or H spd, he can't dash up without being frame negative and SPD is a 5 frame move.

Look at what happens in the corner in these matches. Jeff does that up elbow launcher thing followed by the headbutt antiair and it looks like it's going to cross under but it doesn't because he wasn't holding forward. The only way to have any indication of which side you're going to be on when you land is to be the person playing the mika since there is no animation difference.

With most characters that have crazy bullshit like this, there is some way to make a read on what your opponent is going to do. If you're knocked down and your opponent is dashing into you, you have a second to look at what they're doing and figure out what they're going for and add that to what they've done the past few times. With mika, there is no way to read it since she doesn't have to move and she doesn't have to do any animation of any kind, it's pure guesswork.

As someone who picked up SFV because of Mika waifu-faggotry, she has some surprisingly easy tech that does TONS of fucking damage.
Her main tool in all of this is her irish whip/passion press, which sets up pretty much all of her big huge damage combos.

Alex is an all-around melee character that excels in footsies and big punishes. His command throw is just another one of his many tools but often you wont even use it online because of how jump-happy people tend to be. And all of your special moves can be neutral jumped on and punished hard. Counterhit MP -> MP -> v-trigger -> HP -> clothesline ->backdrop is a good combo that you should learn. The problem with guessing is that it never ends after the first round, especially on a character like mika that has a ton of options. Even after the first round things don't get easier because anyone who puts a few hours into mika wont be dumb enough to reapeat the same thing for easy reads.

It's more than that. Laura has a three frame jab, so there's more frame traps she can disrespect. She's plus 3 for making you block standing strong. She has confirms into VTrigger activation that do tons of damage. EX Fireball setplay. She's incredibly explosive and has great movement. Plus 2 for a bnb and only -2 for making you block a move that has her slide halfscreen and drive herself into you with zero pushback. Plus 2 after backthrow > dash forward. Incredible variety in her mixups.
Laura has great potential. She's pretty underutilized.

Karin has no backup command grab or shenanigans outside of a couple situational resets and EX-OROCHI reset. All her overheads telegraphed as fuck and her f.mk is so fucking slow that even on hitstun the opponent can recover and throw out a s.mp that beats your followup s.mp.
And if she used a skill and you aren't spamming fireballs 9/10 times you are punishing her with jab into whatever you fucking want or you can just grab her if thats too hard..
So you are left with a pressure character who gets memed about her "great normals" when everyone in this goddamn game has great normals and good blockstrings.

Every Mika I've seen has a set pattern for what they do after they reset you. It's always reset, meaty, reset, meaty, reset, command grab. Both of those options are going to be beaten by an invincible reversal, if your character has one, and you know that Mika isn't going to respect it, so you can do it at least twice before they get scared into blocking after reset. But that pattern is there, look for it next time you fight Mika.
It's kind of like Ken with his wakeup shoryuken. Is it extremely powerful? Sure, but you know it's coming, same as with Cammy's cannon spike. So you just walk forward and block, and they kill themselves. Granted, with Mika it takes more effort since she still has good tools like whiff punishing with that crazy corner carry, or her safe ex moves and late st. hk. But the pattern is there, and like with every character, a 50/50 can become an 80/20 if you actually learn some probability and statistics.
That said, I'm all for removing some of her tools just for the sake of making her more interesting, like the ridiculous st. mk link to clap and corner carry. The resets are fair game as they carry their own risk and should be hard to achieve, but that hitconfirm is too much.

Mika is kinda easy, just play keep away. Turtling is bad but it gets the job done against her. Also if you're a Roo player like me this works pretty well against her, you can zone and then parry when she shoots her butt or Nadeshiko or whatever. Parrying is really good if you get it right, most chars are kinda flowchart and one dimensional right now so you can risk it sometimes. Granted I'm only silver so I play mostly intermediate players.
It's such a shame i cant play this game while drunk or high, how the fuck can i have fun with this game.
