I only ever played Nostalrius for the lore because all the expansions on the core game fucked up my following of WoW so hard. How's a new player supposed to know what the Cataclysm was right out of fucking training? Then I'm supposed to know who the Lich King is like I've been fighting him my entire life.
Blame big streamers. Many twitch WoW players were openly saying they're playing nost during their streams. Going as far as saying "Current wow is such shit I'm going to end my stream early and play nost".
You can poke the blizzard bear but when you're their free marketing and telling people to play an older illegal version of their game over the current somebody was bound to get fucked. I won't be shocked if blizzard doesn't issue channel temp bans for the worst offenders, and yes they can do that.

Also the fact that you can sign up on legit Blizzard servers to be apart of a guild that doesn't use any of the heirloom bullshit, caps at 60, and progresses through old raids like the old days is more than enough proof that people want to at least be able to experience what WoW was like back in 04/05.
Even if a legacy server were to fail you could just update it to the version all the other servers are up to. They really just don't want to admit that they got lucky as fuck when it came to Vanilla/TBC even.
They hit that sweet spot where the game wasn't EQ levels of poopsocking but there was still enough content for you to tackle and it felt like you actually accomplished something when you did.

The lowest pop current server is 68K so for someone to say the server is fucking huge isn't doing nothing but blowing smoke. Yes there is a small demand for a vanilla server, but there isn't enough of a demand for them to put up a vanilla realm, and there never will be a high enough demand. The amount of people who prefer vanilla is a very small minority.

First off, paladins and druids were fine for 10man content, with druids being actually viable in 20mans and are more than enough to replace warriors at 5man instances.
Second of all all healing classes and spec were viable. They weren't optimal for certain encounters, but they were for others. For example druids and shamans were great at Vael with their high aoe hps, while paladins were masters of single-target healing.
Third, fury warriors were top DPS class in vanilla for first 2,5 tiers of content.

This is something that I have thought about often.
Hell, even the whole questing system was an afterthought when alpha testers complained about running out of tutorial quests. This lead to the hub based questing system where you weren't railroaded from zone to zone like in the expansions. I recognize that the quests itself have mostly evolved to be more engaging, but the Vanilla pacing was superb.

Meh. I had a lot of fun. I had a level 60 warrior and warlock, got them dungeon blued, raid-ready... it was enjoyable. I didn't have time to raid and in hindsight I'm glad I didn't as this would have been much more deflating. Instead I get to enjoy the memories I did have.

In vanilla when you ran Molten Core it was 40 people and only had 10 bosses, most guilds would struggle and only be able to do 5 or 6 bosses, so yeah, your chances of getting rare loot was pretty damn slim.

In Molten Core there were bosses that would mind control, heal themselves when taking spell damage at certain points so you'd have to know when to stop, and you'd have to coordinate 40 fucking people so it was way harder and had more mechanics than anything modern WoW has.
