I wish I still had mine.

>tfw using my mum's old CRT for the last few months
I don't mind the fact my LED died since the CRT is pretty comfy.
>>
The high pitched ringing that CRTs make drives me insane.
>>
Polygons and the bad refresh rate is boring after 50-120 minutes

Sold mine yesterday
>>
>>333415064
I've never heard the ringing people talk about, even when I was a kid.
>>
>>333415204
You ear is damaged (4-8kHz)

I had 8 CRTs since 1994, all of them had this.

Not him but I hear CRTs and mosquito buzzers all the time and it's fucking painful, I'm 21 years old and there are people a lot younger than me that can't hear it though.
>>
>>333415325
My hearing is probably shit. I need to see a doctor about tinnitus; I've always been hearing some kind of ringing in my ears and I didn't realise it was a problem.
>>333415435
I can hear flies if they come near my ears are it's fucking retched.

Headphones = bad

Loud concerts = bad

Clubs = bad
>>
>>333415064
only CRTs with dried out caps does that, just swap them out.
>>333415204
Bet your can hear this one though

Also vaping = bad for hearing
>>
>>333416282
Sounds like the ambient noise from a rain forest. I'd imagine it gets grating.
>>333416184
I'm fucked.

>Headphones = bad
Huh? I thought they were fine as long as you didn't blast your shit? I mean the label says they'll give you cancer but I was already dealing with cancer from this fucking board

not all crt's make that whine

usually some shielding is getting loose from age that is causing a vibration in the back

i have an old crt that does that. im used to it. but i recently got a trinitron and this one is silent. it's amazing. like brand fucking new.
>>
>games were created to be on crt until 2005
>Every game ever before 2005 look shit in high definition
We're doing a shit job preserving games. How do se save them?

It could have been mine

Is it not possible to make a flatscreen CRT? Surely we have the technology by now
>>
Has anyone ever tried to get a CRT from an ewaste center? I'm thinking of trying on Friday to find one there.
>>
>>333416608
>I mean the label says they'll give you cancer but I was already dealing with cancer from this fucking board
from this fucking sub*
>>
whats a good crt to get
>>
>>333418721
There are flatter CRTs, I think.
>>
>>333418410
>games created for hugeass HDTVs after 2005
>now games have ant-sized text often leaving swaths of unused space in menus or objective lists
This was one thing that finally made me give up my CRT, but not until I found the best possible solution for minimizing input latency.
>>
>>333419185
Sony used to make these 100lb CRT monitors for professional studios. They were tens of thousands back in the day but now they'll probably run you a few hundred. You can even put them on their side for vertical shooters.

BVM I think they're called.

If portability is an issue, and you don't care about perfect latency you might also consider a low res projector.
>>
Before I wanted a CRT, they were everywhere. Even the local Walmart had a few left. Every thrift store had 4 or 5 at any one time.

Now that I want one, they're nowhere to be found.
>>
>>333419368
There are. Enhanced Definition crts are flatscreen and fairly slim. Standard Definition crts are the big fat ones made before 2002 or so.

look up FED's and SED display

there are prototypes but never put into mass production because its cheaper and easier to make LCD tv's
>>
>>333420395
look on craigslist

i got a 32" trinitron for free just because the guy didnt want to bother with moving it
>>
I actually just bought one but at the top of the screen it has those awful horizontal lines. Is there an easy fix or is it just the cathode bring misaligned or something?
>>
>>333414670
>Friend finally got his LED-TV
>Ask if I can have his old CRT
>"Sure but it's stored in the attic blablablabla"
>While hanging out months later I brought it up again
>"Yeah sure, we just brought it down from the attic to throw it out, but you can take it."

Best fucking TV ever, it's even got a working VHS player built in.

>got famicom in japan
>"shit it takes DC not AC"
>get power
>"shit I need an adapter to play games"

>"shit this input delay is ridiculous"

>... wait
>australia is PAL so probably no NTSC

am I fucked or am I fucked
>>
>>333422829
>australia is PAL so probably no NTSC
Some CRTs like Trinitrons can display both PAL and NTSC.
>>
>>333423025
Mate, you may have just saved my fucking arse.

Looks cheap and easy to find. Fuck yeah.

Thanks a bunch.

Got this thing two years ago for free from a local pawn shop. 27" Panasonic, it has composite, component, and s-video. I have my PS2 hooked up to it and plan to also get a gamecube and SNES for it.
