Has anyone else had this problem of half second input lag with Sony's PS Now service when played on a supporting Blu Ray device? Some games it doesn't bother me, like RPGs or whatever. But when I try to play any action games it makes me want to throw the whole thing in the garbage.

I called Sony about it and the guy told me, in barely intelligible English, that "the whole game is streamed so if your connection is bad it's your fault" and I tried to explain to him that I understood the art assets, music, etc. streaming but that I din't get why something as gameplay critical as input polling would require a FUCKING PING TO SONY'S FUCKING SERVERS! He never understood what I meant and I just gave up.

tl;dr
Is this my internet connections fault or is the PS Now service just garbage on a BluRay player?

PS Now is always input lag, you could have the best internet in the world -- unless sony's server are pretty much next door it takes time for your input, overhead from encoding video, overhead from going through various access points, and finally come back giving you the resulting image of your action.

heck, even in-house streaming feels laggy

over the internet is plain dumb for anything but turn based
>>
>>333413102
It's almost like playing games over an internet connection fucking sucks and shouldn't be done
>>
>>333413102
PSNow just takes your inputs and sends them to a server where it runs the game locally and then sends you the image, probably at 30 FPS. There's no way for it to not lag unless Sony found a way to break the speed of light.

USF4 on Playstation Now, kek. Is this for real? Why would you do this to yourself.
>>
>>333413675
it's okay, most people just mash buttons at random anyway so lag doesn't really matter

Wait, so you're telling me there is an engineer somewhere that thought this was a good idea? No, it was probably some fucking suit trying to maximize profit off of preexisting IPs.

I've been trying to dip my toes back into modern gaming lately and I'm just met with shitty experience after shitty experience. I'll wait a decade before I try any gaming that doesn't at least use some local storage again.

You do understand that the game is not executing on your blu ray player, right?

I did think, until now, that, at the very least, the mission critical parts of the code were being executed locally, yes. I now know better.
>>
>>333414298
Emulate or get the originals. They tricked you anon, I'm sorry
>>
>>333414298

You genuinely thought that your shitty blu ray player was capable of running the whole game minus graphics.

That's so adorable.
>>
>>333414035
can't even play this with the input lag of my plasma TV. And why are you playing with scrubs, get some contacts.
>>
>>333413675
That's like asking why a fighting game would have online competitive play...
>>
>>333413102
PS Now is shit if you have a shitty internet connection since you're basically STREAMING from Sony's servers.

these are the people who browse /v/ these days, holy shit.
>>
>>333414494
It's really not much to ask for when I'm playing the original GODDAMN 1942 OR SIDE ARMS!!!
>>
>>333414576
most people don't play with me

I didn't meant to say people I play against, just most people that play the game
>>
>>333414615
It's shit period. Your connection can be 1000mbs and playing a game remotely will always be shit
>>
>>333414612
what?
>>
>>333414762
I like when people think bandwidth = transfer speed

we'd pretty much need faster than light communication -- and even then there's still a lot of unresolved overhead

I've never had a reason to come to this board as I mostly play retro games. I'm not an average /v/ browser, for good or for ill.

>the mind of a consolefriend
it's okay anon. just get an xbone. it uses the powah of the cloud to do everything and is literally just a box that you can put a cd in with a fan so it doesn't overheat. the large size of the console is purely aesthetic.

I'm not really sure what you're trying to imply with this comment.
>>
>>333414826
Online fighting games have input lag as well m8
>>
>>333416091
with proper netcode and prediction it's a completely different thing
>>
>>333416091

Online fighting games communicate via netcode which just synchronizes the game state, they aren't sharing an entire video stream.
>>
>>333416918
>>333416091
also, your local response is still as good as any local game -- potential bad sync with the opponent isn't input lag
