I think everything Blizzard does will fail in the long run.
Sadly that long run IS pretty damn long and probably everyone there causing this today will have retired to some mansion by the time it all falls apart.
After the initial rush it'll probably dwindle down to a loyal but consistent fanbase. Nobody talks about TF2, but its still #3 on steam stats.

No not really. All of Blizzard's current games have a healthy stable population. Twitch streamers will make this game extremely popular.
The game is easy and casual to get into. It carries the Blizzard name. The designs are likeable and it can be pretty normie.
Once blizzard has made their money I don't see how it can be considered a failure.

WoW was something new and literally brought gaming into the mainstream, it had a rock solid foundation from warcraft 3, and while not nearly as good as before - is still extremely profitable today.
This is closer to HotS - except its not even building on established franchises, and its definitely not doing anything new.

There will be a strong (?) initial launch, it'll be hyped for a month, then everyone is going to stop playing it and see it for the shit that it is.

It really depends on the direction they go with it.
For games like these the main thing that keeps it alive is community. The whole reason I have an embarrassing amount of hours played in TF2 is because I frequented a few community run servers where I knew everyone and we would just shoot the shit.
Unfortunately it looks like blizzard are taking the competitive matchmaking route. While that definitely works for other games, I can't see myself taking a game like this seriously for competitive. I would be much more content to fuck around in deathmatch or custom modes

It made all of those otherwise god-fucking-damn timevampire games into a relatively approachable one, and again, started out with a huge userbase extremely ready to get into it thanks to the gigantic fanbase of Warcraft 3.

Different anon in the same situation. Firstly the game was never balanced that well to begin with but they've somehow made it insanely worse lately, partially to sell their new ugly ass weapon skins and partially because they don't know what the fuck they're doing.
Also I just got too good but have no interest in going to the effort of playing competitively. I've played so much I can stomp almost any server easily and it just feels unfair and isn't fun.
