well when it comes to normal racing games,NFS Underground 2 is my favorite. I don't really use this often but that game was comfy.

It is ultra competitive, however it isn't as widespread as getting into competitive simulator racing, such as leagues with entering fees requires ridiculous amounts of practice and a set of pedals and wheel which, if you want something that can and feels good, can cost at minimum 300 dollars (G27).
In addition, the time consumed driving around the same track mastering every corner is not appealing to everyone. People who are parts of sim racing communities, however, are very enthusiastic about it and are willing to shell out money for things such as:
>a buttkicker
literally something that kicks the back of your seat when you downshift or brake
>an actual cup seat meant for professional racing
>hydraulic equipment
and so on
Considering it's a niche market, a good rig can cost up to 3000 dollars, thats excluding computer and other apparel costs which can bring it to a total of 5000 dollars.

rFactor 2 and iRacing.
rFactor 1 is good too and its easy to pirate and mod but its physics are old compared to whats on the current market.
