I was playing snes roms on my wii through a SCART cable and it's almost as good as playing on a CRT TV.
I was playing Terranigma and you can really see they didn't really want to show sharp pixels at all in the art direction.
It really bugs me that everything is so sharp and jagged in the retro look to games now.
They even build the graphics to be more simplified to show pixels. Why do people want to do this?
There's such beautiful pixel work out there and it's all been completely overlooked, I guess because it's too much work to make something look good and nuanced.

i played it for an hour yesterday, the presentation is great, you open the game to this rocking tune that sings "ENTER THE GUNGEONNNNNNN, ENTER THE GUNGEONNNNNN" and it really pumps you up, the game really fills your inner dakka, everything in the game is gun themed, the enemy are literaly bullets shell armed with guns (the one equipped with shotguns are shotgun shells) and there are teleporter that looks like a revolver reloading chamber
i was able to reach the first boss and it was a muscular seagull armed with a gatling gun, it was like allen'o nell from metal slug all over again
the actual game is pretty much like BoI, but instead of power ups you get different guns, i haven't played much so i haven't seen lot of different guns but it surprised me when i got a gun that shooted t-shirt, you also have a dodge roll button that makes you invincible while doing the animation so i guess that makes dodging hits easier

It's got some fun puns, but it's slow as hell you play compared to NT and doesn't seem to have many interesting interactions like Isaac.

Gungeon is fun as hell. Don't let /v/'s bias against pixel art dissuade you, it's actually a really great game with a cool style and personality to it.

Here's an opinion of the game from somebody who's actually played it and doesn't share the 4chan hivemind.
It's pretty good. Go in expecting a bullet hell. I'm a pretty decent gamer skill-wise, I've hit level 4 boss within 4 hours and the game seems to be 5 levels long, so there's that. Somebody who plays exclusively bullet hells will probably clear the game in the time I've put into it.
I fear the enemies will start becoming repetitive, the first few floors don't have much variety. I haven't wiki'd anything so there's still things I haven't figured out. I've had fun playing it so far.
Objectively, for 16$ I'd give it a 6.5/10, good clean gameplay, nice variety of weapons, bosses are pretty fun though cycling them on the early floors is sometimes repetitive (something I didn't feel with binding of isaac).

Great gun variety, they've come up with a lot of unique stuff. Good map generation, great attention to detail, fun and distinguished enemies with different attack patterns.
THE GUNS SOUND AND FEEL LIKE SHIT
Everything else this game does well doesn't matter, the guns feel weak as fuck. They sound like pea shooters, they do barely any damage no matter how fancy they are (damage comes from item combinations and synergies, never from the gun itself).

the only way you can kill everything in one hit reliably in NT is pre loop with a crossbow and good aim or bolt marrow. even then it's slow as fuck unless you have trigger fingers or a gold crossbow with YV. the salamanders in scrapyard take two unless you have scarier face, and the snow tanks in frozen city always take more than one. past that you need an energy sword with laser brain or a super crossbow or something to kill the palace enemies in one hit. and good luck killing the dogs in one hit unless you pop pop them with a powerful gun and scarier face. the throne sure doesn't die in one hit either, and you have to kill the generators as well which also have a fair amount of health. on loop it's a clusterfuck of shit with varying degrees of health, so a simple crossbow won't get you far, you need an auto crossbow with bolt marrow or a super crossbow with trigger fingers. and anyway you can die in one hit from a ton of shit too, it's not like the game is piss easy

I don't think they're especially easy for devs, there's still a lot of work involved even if there is less of a requirement to create a lot of assets.

I hate to say it as I like Nuclear Throne a lot but of the two this game is better designed. Nuclear Throne has a lot of situations where you lose due to bad luck. This is due to the decision of fielding a lot of enemies with simple bullet patterns which sometimes results in a solid bullet curtain you have no way to get around without taking damage. Gungeon uses few enemies with complicated bullet patterns, gives you dodge rolls with i-frames and field-clearing bombs for emergencies.
Nuclear Throne still has the superior game feel and I greatly prefer the aesthetic - Gungeon is kind of ugly - but Gungeon is undeniably the better game. Certainly better than anything else in the bullet hell roguelite genre. Light years ahead of shit like Issac.

Gungeon can always be beaten by a skilled enough player. Luck is just a slight modifier. The game never sticks you in a situation you cannot solve with the starter gun and some dodge rolls. Nuclear Throne also has a lot of skill involved but you will run into situations where you failed your save VS RNG and that's that.

First of all there is always a small chance to spawn into an unwinnable situation. Secondly the longer you loop the more likely you are to run into such a situation. An infinite game based on score should never end because the player was unlucky. See my other post on the subject.

It is entirely possible to run through the game with just a wrench and a gun for dealing damage. Keep the wrench out for the most part, only swap to the other gun for killing things quickly, or enemies with large health pools. (Crystals., robot walkers bosses etc.)
You're practically guaranteed to find a wrench before 2-1 with how often it drops from enemies and can be found in chests. You could also farm until you get the gold wrench, which eliminates the need to get lucky anyways. As for "not being able to swing fast enough", you just need the get rid of the bullets you can't avoid. If all else fails you could just use crystal. And of course you'll die eventually in nuclear throne, that's kind of the idea behind looping endlessly.
tl;dr luck can be circumvented through skill and planning. Git gud.

Bad:
Weapon progression is a power creep, most weapons are just +1 reskins. Very little variety compared with Nuclear Throne where a shotgun type weapon has several different variants alone.
First floor is a ten-minute chore at the very least, you reload constantly, your clip has minuscule capacity and even homing bombs tank your bullets. Bosses are simplistic and tedious, dodgeroll is overpowered and you can circlestrafe most of their attacks anyway.
Pixelshit even for pixelshit standards.

Horrible boss design, lazy bullet patterns. Makes Nicalis people look like they know what they're doing.
Overall, the game is dead on arrival because no one is going to play a roguelike where you have to endure shit gameplay until the harder parts start. Zero pacing, good example would be how Isaac is often blamed for it when you don't get good damage, but at least you can get lucky with a yellow room.

You are -almost- correct. Nuclear Throne is 95% skill 5% luck. The better you are the more bad situations you can claw your way out of. There are, however, situations which you have no way to deal with due to extremely bad dice rolls. Gungeon is a lot more careful about how it deploys enemies. A few enemies are still a threat because they can shoot out elaborate patterns but because there are only a few you are basically guaranteed to have a way to dodge through their attacks. JW's design does not guarantee this because he relies on placing a lot of enemies almost blindly.
Dieing eventually is fine if it is because you can't keep up with the enemies. It is not fine if you die eventually because the game rolls a dice every level and you eventually roll a 1.
I kinda feel cheated since the Crossbow is pretty much the best gun for most shit. Like getting a new gun doesn't really change anything, most of the time.

Ah, let me note another thing in favor of Nuclear Throne: game length. 1 hour is too long for a single play session. Research points out that focus lapses after around 45 minutes and people tend to prefer play sessions which last around half an hour. I like the splinter and seeker guns, mostly because the splinters can have some retarded high amount of damage for ammo spent especially with bolt marrow, even more if you also have eagle eyes, and seekers also have some pretty good damage on top of letting you not have to expose yourself as much.

I used to be a huge Isaac fan and I have to say : your post is full of bullshit.
Balance is basically non-existant in TBoI:R. The difficulty level hovers between easy mode snoozefest and impossible. There's no middle ground and you either oneshot everything with a stupid combo like Tammy's Head+Brimstone or spend an hour trying to kill anything because you've rolled nothing good.
As for skill, it doesn't do anything in this game. It's all about RNG and hoping the game doesn't fuck your shit up. If you're unlucky, you get only bad items and have to go through rooms with broken ass design and unavoidable damage. If you're lucky, you shit on the game. Again, there's no middle ground.
McMillen is a hack and an unprofessional shitty designer who'd rather post memes and pictures of his wife's placenta on dumblr than write a changelog for any of his games. He and Nicalis don't give a fuck anymore and are just going to milk the franchise with DLCs that add nothing but a couple useless characters and items.
