Not him, but cats are pretty hit or miss. You either get an awesome cat or an asshole, because they're used to being lone hunters. Dogs are social pack animals so they develop like children in that they way you treat them affects their disposition.
If you're kind, attentive, but not overwhelming, you'll have a pretty kick ass dog.
