>release of undertale when FAGGOTS were figuring everything out together

fix'd
>>
Everything about this game has been discussed to death and the fans are so polarizing that they'll turn any valid criticism into baseless shitposting. Shame, I actually liked the game.

This is on the level of "ur mom lol"
>>
>>333325907
but, the first days it was out there wasn't enough information on it to make an assumption about either it or it's fanbase. everyone was just having a good time playing what was then an obscure masterpiece.

It was even a bit faggoty when the demo came out 100 years ago.

playing it the day it came out was okay

fanbase deducts about a dozen points from the seven out of ten i'd give it, but as a standalone thing it's alright and i don't feel like i wasted my money or anything

it's kind of weird seeing it plastered everywhere, i just thought it was another random gimmicky indie game that nobody would bother with after a month

>How did you find out about undertale?
a friend i added from /v/ told me to try the demo and how amazing it was about a month or so before release. left it alone for two days but when i actually finally got around to it, was really great. we speculated and talked about the game for a bit after the demo and for like a week after release, it was fun
>What were your expectations for the game? Did the game meet them?
didnt know what to expect, just looked like pixelshit, my friend hyped it up and explained the mechanics which eventually got me to give it a shot. game went above expectations since i didnt really have any i guess

the asgore fight and flowey fights probably

Eh, the gameplay was pretty weak but the story and soundtrack were amazing. Genocide was pretty lazy though, if you'd told me it was a creepypasta I'd believed you.

>How did you find out about undertale?
Buddy of mine.

>What were your expectations for the game? Did the game meet them?
Not very high, to be honest. I've had my fair share of shitty RPGMaker games, so I wasn't expecting anything good. It blew every expectation out of the water when I realized how fucking comfy the entire game was.

>What was your favorite moment in the game?
Hard to say, either Alphys' "real" lab or the entire aftermatch when you defeat Asgore. Were some great swift of tones that were masterfully done by not being outside the realm of possibility.

The last fight was really really good too. Saving all of these characters that you loved so much was really emotional.

>What was your least favorite moment in the game?
I didn't really care that much about Goat Mom at the start, to be honest. Being with her was comfy, but she didn't seem like a particularly interesting character until you learn the hole story behind the Dreemurr family.

>Who is your favorite character?
Burgerpants. Papyrus as a close second.

>How did you find out about undertale?
A post on /v/ like a week and a half after release

>What were your expectations for the game? Did the game meet them?
I had experienced enough times where indie games posted on /v/ were good so when I saw Undertale on /v/, I just went in completely blind and had no expectations whatsoever.

>What was your favorite moment in the game?
The bait and switch with Papyrus's blue attack because not only was it sly, but it revealed that the game wasn't afraid to add new mechanics to the fight system.

>What was your least favorite moment in the game?
Hotland in general although Metaton's fight made up for most of it.

>Who is your favorite character?
It's a tie between Burgerpants and Napstablook.

I'm not going to lie /v/, I was obsessed with the game like I've never been with anything else. Thankfully I wasn't annoying and didn't tell anyone except mention to my friends they should try it blind. >How did you find out about undertale?
A couple of days after it came out because of the /v/ threads.
>What were your expectations for the game? Did the game meet them?
I played the demo and I was just expecting some decent writing, RPG stuff and some "muh feels" moments, for 8€ I wasn't conviced at first but I thought "if it's not engaging I'll just refund it". All the stuff the games does to tell the players that they are part of the world completely blew me away, that was beyond my expectations.
>What was your favorite moment in the game?
Genocide, and how the game changes completely as you kill people.
>What was your least favorite moment in the game?
Since you meet with Alphys until you meet with the second form of mettaton, that stuff was very annoying and cringy. But Alphys is supposed to cringy so looking back it wasn't really that bad.
>Who is your favorite character?
I know is everyone's favourite but Sans. Discovering stuff about the plot as you fight him made it the most interesting character of all by far, and makes a lot of sense that he is the final barrier to the fans who want to discover all the truth about Undertale.

I heard Spider Dance and the bought the game on sale the next day, shit was hoppin.

No idea what to expect other than what /v/ had mentioned in the demo and skeletons.

Hard to narrow that down. I would say the moment Bonetrousle kicked in was the moment I fell in love so I'll say that.

The ruins is a slog and I hate the high encounter rate.

Papyrus. Asgore is pretty neat too, and I actually liked Alphys quite a lot. Honestly I liked everyone.

>tfw you can never talk about Undertale again because the community is literal cancer
>>
>>333325907
That's sad because I had a few questions at the end of everything.
>Why does Sans value a promise from someone he never met over the life of his own brother?
Even if the promise was to keep the player safe, he shouldn't keep holding himself from attacking if it results in his brother dying. Makes his condemnation of dirty brother killer feel hollow if he's not going to lift a finger to save or avenge him.
>Why didn't Toriel intervene against Asgore sooner if all it took was her presence to break his resolve?
She only intervenes with the last kid and is too late when she does? Lazy writing.
>Why does Napstablook avoid the player in the genocide route?
He's literally invincible and mocks you if you try to kill him. He has nothing to be afraid of.
>Why can't Mettaton Neo attack?
Even a *Mettaton is charging his attack! would've worked but why is he determined to do nothing?
>How come Flowey says he can't use the souls in subsequent neutral runs yet he clearly uses them in the Pacifist ending?
After the neutral ending, you can't fight Omega Flowey again because he states "the souls would just rebel again." In fact, the souls serve as checkpoints in his fight since they retain memory of you calling out to them even if you die. So how come Flowey was able to use them in the pacifist ending to restrain (he's using a vine from his Omega form to do so) everyone? Shouldn't they have rebelled because they remember?
>How does the player leave the barrier in the neutral ending?
There is no displacement involved after the Flowey fight, replaying the neutral ending has you walk into the room you meet him in after his fight.
>Asgore being completely oblivious to everything in the genocide run despite Undyne warning you he would be ready as well as Alphys and Mettaton being in position to alert him at any time.
It's not that he isn't able to recognize the player, it's just that he's so unprepared even when Flowey is literally telling him what he needs to know.

>>How did you find out about undertale?
With the daily shitposting threads on /v/ of people arguing if the game was actually good or tumblrtrash, I was curious so I spent the $10 to see what all this fuss was about

>What were your expectations for the game? Did the game meet them?
My expectations where coming from both sides of what everyone was claiming, that it was a fun Earthbound inspired RPG with funny characters and a good story. At the same time I was looking to see if the game was really tumblr garbage, the only thing I found tumblr worthy was Alphys but she didn't ruin the game for me (I guess you could count "So Sorry" as furry pandering but he is a character you unlock at a very specific time and Toby did not even want to add him into the game considering it was someone's OC self-insert but they were offering him a shit ton of money so I can't blame Toby). The gameplay was meh but I did find myself loving characters like Sans and Papyrus and the soundtrack I can without a doubt say is 10/10, I sometimes find myself listening to the soundtrack when I'm playing other games.

>What was your favorite moment in the game?
I enjoyed the beginning with Papyrus a lot but boss wise Muffet or Mettaton EX were most likely my favorite.

>What was your least favorite moment in the game?
The date with Alphys and Undyne, it isn't the worst shit I've ever seen but I just plain don't like Alphys character. It's odd because I do generally like Undyne.

>Who is your favorite character
Sans or Papyrus hands down

It's a fine game and a damn good inde game at that, it's just not what I would call "10/10! BEST GAME EVER!" I feel like it's fanbase is what ruined it's reputation on /v/.
I do also feel that it's more than a "flavor of the month game" like FNaF, I generally feel that inde devs will look at Undertale as an example of how to do inde RPG's right.

Because people who like bad jokes have integrity. Fuck, youre a killer and he still thinks there is some good in you because you read the word puzzle.

Because you impacted Toriel that much or something, I dont fucking know. Maybe she realized you were the 7th soul.

Mettaton NEO is an unfinished body and he wasnt taking you seriously. He was literally too full of himself to realize you were bringing that level of hate and violence.

Because at that point he had seven souls taken from all the monsters gathered together, the souls wouldnt have had the strength to resist.

>Why does Sans value a promise from someone he never met over the life of his own brother?
Because promises are obviously binding to him and thats why he doesn't like to make them.

>Why didn't Toriel intervene against Asgore sooner if all it took was her presence to break his resolve?
She has a sudden realization that what she was doing was wrong too.

>Why does Napstablook avoid the player in the genocide route?
Because he's already depressed and you're murdering everyone he knows.

>Why can't Mettaton Neo attack?
Thats the joke.

>How come Flowey says he can't use the souls in subsequent neutral runs yet he clearly uses them in the Pacifist ending?
Because according to the timeline the souls will rebel in the end every time, not when he first grabs them.
The plan was to use them to steal every monsters soul as well.

>How does the player leave the barrier in the neutral ending?
Intentionally left vague, probably something to do with the other 6 human souls that vanish without a trace after the fight.

>How did you find out about undertale?
Saw a thread about it when the demo had just came out.
>What were your expectations for the game? Did the game meet them?
I expected a game where every monster tried to kill you; something really dark or whatever. Thought Sans and Papyrus would be recurring comic relief villains. I forgot the "Earthbound inspired" part, so I guess what it turned out to be is accurate to what it was said to be, but not what I thought.

Hotlands was pretty boring. Only three enemies too. Mettaton's parts were fun though.

Sans. Not cause of the "stronkest guy in the game" meme but because of his character. He's a good brother and makes jokes. Reminds me of myself.

>Because people who like bad jokes have integrity. Fuck, youre a killer and he still thinks there is some good in you because you read the word puzzle.
You can not read the puzzle and his actions stay the same. It really goes against his character as someone who dearly loves his brother if he's not going to do anything meaningful about it.

>Because you impacted Toriel that much or something, I dont fucking know. Maybe she realized you were the 7th soul.
We have no reason to think that the other 6 kids left in the same way that Frisk did, so why didn't she stick her neck out for any of them? And if she knew Asgore was keeping souls instead of crossing the barrier immediately, she should've instantly known that he didn't actually want to commit to the war he declared. She could've stopped him at literally any time.

>Mettaton NEO is an unfinished body and he wasnt taking you seriously.
This works I guess, despite the fact that Alphys personally watched you kill Undyne.

>Because at that point he had seven souls taken from all the monsters gathered together, the souls wouldnt have had the strength to resist.
He explicitly uses the omega vines despite him stating in the neutral ending repeats that the souls would rebel from his control. This is before he absorbs any monster soul.

>I feel like this is copypasta
It's sad that you'd think that, this is something I only realized after thinking critically about the story. I still like it, but I can acknowledge lazy writing.

>>333336361
It destroys his character as someone who loves his brother that he'd just let it be taken away from him because of a stranger.

And she didn't have a realization before with the other kids? Deus ex Machina.

The route where you're killing everything is the only route where the invincible monster vanishes? Convenient.

I appreciate the joke, but it was in poor taste. Even an excuse of *Mettaton charging would fix this.

See above.

There is no displacement, Frisk just walks away

Really, who knew that would happen. It was just a flower.
The only absolutely morally reprehensible thing she did was lying after the experiments with the comatose monsters went to shit.
Everything else sucked but you can't really blame her, as she did it all well within moral standards. For example, the families of the comatose monsters donated them to science, so experiments on them were okay, but telling the families their loved ones were revived and then keeping them in the dark about it was a bad call.

Dog salag plus snow man pieces dawg, but save your pie and as many pieces as you can for sans
>>
My first time playing the game I just killed everybody that fought me because of that sign in the ruins that hinted that the best option was to pick a path and stick to it. Not genocide, sans just told me to go to hell at the end. I didn't like the game at all until I replayed it and decided to go for the sparing everything route and got the good ending, which I think is the way you're supposed to experience the game.

That being said playing the game that way kinda shows one of its big flaws, the game rewards you too much for sparing everybody with funny dialogue and moments while killing people changes too little, a lot of the game is about your ability to save and experience every outcome but there's almost no incentive to do anything except Neutral>Pacifist>Genocide. (Optional).

LISA was better.

Whoops! Was meant for this, i never expected Undertale to be widely autism'd about, just one small game with a small community.

I've seen too many people who watched Undertale, or goat about it without ever playing it, just like what happened to Final Fantasy 7.
>>
>>333338285
The souls remember after the resets, this is an integral part of the Omega Flowey fight otherwise you'd have to call to each soul every time you died. So when Flowey says they'd rebel if he used them again, it makes sense that he wouldn't even bother. But using them as a power boost to restrain everyone flies in the face of that. I understand why he would need to, as the plot of the game wouldn't have happened if he could beat Asgore or Sans conventionally, but why bother with the whole "they'd rebel!" excuse in the first place.

The thing is, Flowey only allows you to retry fighting him in his boss battle, all he'd have to do to win is not let Frisk retry, or load a save before using a soul attack. The power to alter reality at whim is pretty useful even if he doesn't want to fuck with the player, he doesn't even need to wait for the player to set up the pacifist ending if he could manipulate timelines that freely. This is a plot hole.

>>333338503

She did not know she was playing god, she was under orders by Asgore to research DT, and they knew fuck all about it.
This is a real fucking obvious case of hindsight bias. You can say Japanese experiments in biological warfare were immoral because they willing knew it involved murder and torture beforehand. Of course, that's my point.
Lying is her main character flaw, and her arc was about turning that around.
She gets fired for lying, not to mention the guilt of her lies kept her isolated from the outside world.
She gained a lot from telling the truth, which is not horribly realistic, but there's a point being made.
