I recently got my hands on dark souls 2 and I gotta say it fucking sucked.
so I killed the emerald lady who gave me this flask at the beginning, right? now it basically says I need to go back to her and with the help of Google I found out that now I can't level up anymore. like wtf?!
I also killed some women in a hut at the beginning and I've read that I would've needed them later on as well.
this game is seriously bugged and now I can't really progress anymore. I won't start a new game, it's really not worth it and in the end the game may fuck that one up as well.

Who ever mentioned optimized builds? Favourite doesnt equal best or just plain broken ones. If that would be the cause people wouldnt even bother with starting as Deprived or SL1 builds.
Quality/Faith build, anything else is shit-tier.

This mother fucker. Can wield basically any weapon except for the 50 str weapons, but what I use is an axe weapon primary - falchion secondary, the round iron shield left hand and a dragonslayer greatbow left hand secondary. With all this shit + this armor I can still get away with mid rolling. I often just switch the axes around (golem axe, burger king axe, greataxe, etc) depending on what I feel like using or who I'm fighting, or sometimes I just switch to keep the opponent guessing. The falchion is there for flippy fisher fags, and the bow is just a really funny way to end a fight since most people who see me whip it out WILL roll towards me in an attempt to backstab and wind up with a greatarrow to the noggin. Sometimes I pull out orns spear if someones playing like a really big faggot or shield turtling a little too much.
Where this build really shines is it's flexibility. It can't do any magic for shit but since I only have a minimum in faith for orns spear I had a shit ton of free points to spend. The stat allocation is such that I can swap my armor for the lighter baldur knight armor and remove the greatbow and axe and instead lightroll around and just use a flaming falchion or partisan to kill with, while maintaining the same sort of aesthetic. Loved playing this character so much I ended up remaking it on pc though I haven't quite gotten it up to fully parity yet.

Unfortunately, I usually end up getting pooped on in pvp because I haven't been dedicated to it for ages. Still, for a 120 build that doesn't even have the fap ring it's pretty good.

Stats and gear?
Basic 45 dex pyro, and 30 faith dex/faith builds are my two favorites. Free throwing great fireballs all day erry day with the former, laughing off magic fags with GMB on the latter. Sword and board quality is fun too, but quality scaling is just really disappointing when your 40/40 C/C weapon just barely edges out an equivalent dex weapon.

this was the best build i had.
the claymore that C str and dex scale making a backstab over 970 damge. the artorias shield cover every zweihänder. use the magic shielf for parries. easely zero people have the venom moos ready and 3 gift knives made someone panic or and lose most of the time. the armor has so much poise it is ridiculous you can two hand the claymore without being 1 hit stunned by 80%of weapons. they estoc is also the perfect second weapon for being coverd behind atorias shield and the long running attack range. jesus i love this game. i finally need a pc again to play this masterpiece. i gave up on a ps4 remake.

Giant Helm, Eastern Armor, Elite Knight Gauntlets, Wanderer's Leggings. Havel's Ring and whatever ring I feel like, usually wolf in case of claymores.
For light rolling, I unequip the axe and bow slots and equip baldur armor instead of the eastern armor and I get light rolling.
With these stats you can use just about any weapon that doesn't have an int or high faith requirement or a shit ton of str.
poise and stunlocks are both cancer
and so is backstab fishing
and the pvp is nothing else, except maybe op as shit dark magic
