Sorta. They're back to DaS status. There are Dark miracles, sorceries, and pyromancies. You can still infuse weapons with Dark damage (two different infusions for Dark damage options).
Pyromancy still scales with faith/int, but whether it scales in the same way as in DaS2 or like hexes scaled, I'm unsure.

From's aggressive marketing by giving the game to devs, streamers, and the nipponese early just kills my hype. Part of the fun of Souls is finding things out with a fresh perspective. Each weapon class has pros & cons, and specific ways that weapons need to be used. Spears are best for one on one combat. You'd need to get good at spacing yourself from the enemies & luring the enemies into forming a line. Yes, you can use a shield with a spear.

As far as progression is concerned, yeah, they're effectively the same.
In DeS, you pick a world. Lets say world 4. You start at 4-1, then 4-2, and 4-3.
In DaS2, you pick a path. Lets say Huntsman's Copse. You go from Copse to Valley, to Earthen Peak and then Iron Keep.
They're both pretty linear in their progression.

Playing the Dark Souls 2 DLC in scholar is really killing my hype for DS3. The bosses just have too much HP and there are too many fucking enemies. (I'm in the 2nd DLC)
It's just not fun. The Smelter re-fight behind like 10 melee enemies and 3 casters that slow you down so you can't run through AND one of those big ass mace dudes to top it off is fucking retarded. Not to mention the boss at the bottom of the area is almost exactly the same as Smelter except with 2 weapons. How is this supposed to be fun? I'm about to just go to the snow area. I'm tired of this bullshit.

I've seen so much of the game by now that I'm hardly hype anymore.
I know that's my fault and all but still, after DaS1 I thought they fixed the whole greatly delayed releases in regions. One of the most fun parts of the souls community is discovering shit together, speculating about lore, and finding things nearly no one thought to try and posting it for all to see. They've kind of killed most of that now. I doubt there are much of any secrets that haven't already been uncovered. There will actually be full guides/strategies through the whole game on day fucking 1 now.
It's true that we have the DLC but still it wont be the same since DLC areas are usually packed with hard to miss stuff and dont offer the same level of exploration as the full game.

I'm just replaying DS1 and remembering how much of a boring ass game it is. The combat, environment, bosses and atmosphere are good. There's just very little point in keep going forward when there's really no real emotional payoff narrative wise. No waifus, no victory, nothing interesting is going to happen at all. It's just a pure fighting game and suffers for it.
I might still have some fun with DS3 but the nostalgia really colored my expectations and replaying DS1 has really deflated them.

Soon as they go second form and gain new Particle Effects frame rate dips to <5 during their big/magic attacks.
The 'offline' Framerate bug is that the game/console is constantly trying to go online. But since the servers aren't up it just tries forever. Apparently this was fixed(English 1.01 patch is up on Xbone, servers aren't). But I still notice it so just keep my console offline.

There's an infusion that makes any weapon scale with luck, called hollow.
You can just infuse something with raw in the early game, then infuse it with hollow later.
