The way I see it, having female only tournaments is unnecessary. Instead, there should be tournaments for different skill levels like any other sports But esports has to grow for that to happen.

The amount of girls who play games are just way too low to compete with the top-tier players.
Look at CSGO, the CLG.red team or whatever it's called got stomped by some random mixteam.

They should have separate tournaments for different skill levels. Virtually no women qualify for the highest level of competition but several would qualify for say a mid-high skill tournament. Actually traditional sports don't generally have this. Most traditional sports DO have a women's league. However they don't have a "men's" league.
Female players have been drafted onto teams in every major league sport at one time or another, and nothing is legally baring a female draft to any major league sport at the moment either. The only thing that stops females from being drafted into the major leagues is that theygenerallyphysically can't keep up with or match up to the men. The VERY few females that can actually compete with the men have been drafted and allowed into the major leagues.The one exception I think is Rugby, and this is more of a safety issue than anything - even a well built woman would get seriously injured playing with Rugby players - baseball had a stint with banning women from the leagues, but that ban's been gone for 20 years
For a quick example, look up Serena William's Tennis match against the 203rd ranked men's Tennis player. In 1998, Serena and Venus Williams said they could beat any man ranked 200 or worse in a game of tennis. Karsten Braasch, ranked 203, accepted the challenge and easily beat them, 6-1, 6-2.
The reason there's a women's league in sports at all is because there's an inherent advantage to being a man when it involves physical activities, and the VAST majority of women just can't compete. It's to actually give them an opportunity to compete without placing them at a disadvantage for existing as a female.

Not necessary at the moment, but probably in the future.
Physically, Men vs. Women physically is very well documented - with few exceptions, Men beat out Women in very nearly every category (and definitely every category that matters in sports).
Physiologically and mentally the differences are not very well documented or tested. There are a few studies/tests which generally indicate that men have a slightly faster reaction time (after ~20) and are more capable of multitasking, but again, these studies are pretty scarce. Hand-Eye co-ordination is one well studied and documented aspect where men do have a distinct if minor advantage, but that's far from the only thing that's needed to succeed in E-Sports.
Eventually more studies will come out and very likely reveal that women just can't think or react as fast as men can, and when that happens, there should definitely be separate leagues for them. There's a reason there's no females in the top 500 players in LoL, no females competing in CoD/BoF tournaments, there's no females in the top 50 for anything in SFII, Melee, MvC2, and no top tier female Starcraft player in South Korea.
As of right now though, the only reason there is to have a separate women's league is just to give more women representation.

Male to Female trans should be allowed in to compete in Women's E-Sports (at least currently), since there's no consensus on there being an inherent advantage to being a man, and it's solely for representation of the female gender in gaming. While testosterone does fuel competition, and men generally have more in their body during puberty, after 18 it's about even in the average man and woman (men have slightly more at this level), and at the high levels of competition women actually have slightly more of it in their bloodstream than an equivalent man.
So yes, that explains why there's much fewer women in e-sports, but that doesn't explain why there's NO top women players at all.
