I heard a few years ago that God of War was originally planned to be period pieces, with the first being Greek, then the second with a new character and a Norse setting, then the last one being Egyptian, and then somehow those universes would become interconnected and the three MCs of the games would team up to fight the Christian God, but that idea was too crazy and got scrapped.

But there is a reason. It all begins because Kratos is tricked into killing his own wife and son. But Kratos never had any issue with taking off your head, if that means getting closer to his target.
