Why we hate MUGEN again?

Do people even play it? I literally haven't played it since 2007. I know there's some Twitch stream that plays bot matches all day, but the game is pretty much dead.

Nothing wrong with MUGEN itself. It's just a fighting game engine. People just didn't use it as intended.

MUGEN is hell of fun with some friends, a couple of sticks and some brew. But--at least with the mainstream characters--it is a one note joke. I don't doubt some people have created balanced packs of character---I just haven't seen them among the million shitty DBZ characters and Omega Tom Hanks.

I'm trying to remember a Mugen character who uses cats to fight. Like, she summons an army of cats as her move.
It's pretty much novelty. Fun to play for its ridiculousness and especially good with friends for that reason but gets old quick. There's just not a great balance because the roster is fuck huge so there's not really a competitive scene for the game when compared to other unofficial games like Project M.

I've never even played Project M and have only ever played the franchise with close friends. I don't care at all for competitive play but I'm not blind and clearly see there is a large competitive scene for the games.

The engine itself is really buggy and kind of broken.
A lot of old characters don't work on the latest versions. Some things you put in break the game so bad it doesn't boot.
What we really need is a NEW fighting game engine that's highly moddable.
2D/3D as well.
