It's funny because Dark Souls is one of the few games that I have to switch back to my 360 controller to play. The Steam controller is great but games where you need smooth control of the camera just don't work well.

They kept the original shape without accounting for the fact that they moved half the controls to the botttom of the controller, the grips force you upwards, making the joystick/facebuttons horribly uncomfortable.

I own one and have been playing with it to figure out what it's for.
The best explanation I have is that the Steam controller was designed for the specific purpose of bringing keyboard-only games to the TV. It is absolutely not good to play say, a platformer or action game on (since the 360 controller is superior in all regards for this). It does a great job of bringing games like the new XCOM or Tropico or Endless Legend to the TV, though.
I still use my 360 controller about 5 times as much as the Steam controller, but I'd say the Steam controller is only useful if you play a lot of games that standard gamepads aren't compatible with.

DS4 has shit build quality, the analogs of the earlier versions become dust within some months of use, and the analog triggers are shit
the DS3 is better in every aspect get that instead, or better yet, get a DS2 because it doesn't have the shitty-ass analog triggers that are common in recent games (and yet the only game that uses it well is Super Mario Sunshine, and maybe a racing game)
or get a 360 pad if you want to not have to set up anything, just plug and play (I can't talk about the Xbone controller on PC yet, haven't tried it)

Lol all my friends are having to replace their 60$ DS4 pads cause the triggers break within months. My 35$ 360 pad still works perfectly fine after 2-3 years and doesn't require bullshit DS4 software that barely fucking works. Also it fits better in the hand unless you have baby fingers.

previous ds4 owner converted to xbone here. trigger broke from firing arrows in dragons dogma on ds4. lasted about a year. within 2 or 3 months the left stick rubber was almost completely off. ds4 a shit. verdict still out on xbone
