Shadow of the Colossus, Okami(only visually), God Hand, Mother 3, Phoenix Wright, Ghost Trick, 999, No More Heroes, Lost in Shadow(shadow/silhouette platformer became a relatively popular style with the western indies, and this game did it first), Echochrome, Patapon, Super Paper Mario(playing with perspectives), Nier, Demon's Souls, Deadly Premonition, El Shaddai(only visually), UFC games(doesn't look creative at all in first glance but it is in its mechanics), Vanquish, Dragons Dogma, Wonderful 101,Splatoon, Gravity Rush...
Even in such pitiful state Japan is undoubtedly more creative then West in the retail sector. On top of that, game that in a way kicksterted western indie revolution was japanese(Cave Story).
