You stack skills either in a row, column or on top each other. Complete a column and it's usually bonus stats. 3 of the same thing on top each other is another BG. 4 of the same thing is another chain to the combo. Dunno want next but 16 on top of each other is infinite chaining in combos.
Also this helped a lot when I played.

I reallly think the game went through development hell. Through all that I criticized earlier I still feel that they tried something too complicated for their budget or something. Game is too much of a mess for being as intended. Dunno if the writer died half script or the whole game was awfully late but damn that's one spectacular fail and as much as I rage over it I can't quite hate it.

I gotta disagree with this. Oracle of Ages, while the harp of Ages was annoying, I think overall is a great game. It had some great dungeons and an interesting overworld. The main problem was travelling between time was annoying when you didn't know exactly where to be when using the harp.
