So the signature signs of bots that I've found so far is as follows

Jumped into a fresh server I think. Everyone was a bot with a one word name. There were two personalities too; one that held down zoom and spaz'd out, and one that did fuck all. They will also coil themselves if they can't find a path.

I've gotten to the #1 spot multiple times.
When you're small you have the greatest maneuverability, use that to your advantage when you spawn to kill people much bigger than you by zooming in front of them.
By the time I get to 5000 - 10,000 I move to the outer rim of the cluster and prey on snakes that are smaller than me but not "too" small so I don't fuck myself over on accident.
I spend the rest of the time preying on big snakes roaming outside of the cluster. I don't fuck with snakes bigger than me, but bigger guys will come after me. When that happens I outmanuver them by dashing towards the boundary. They either kill themselves by going out of bounds after I make a sharp turn and theyh try to chase me, leave just enough space after their turn for me to coil them, or fuck off when they realize I'm not worth it.

Yeah. Once you reach a certain mass, the center becomes way too crowded and most of the worms there aren't even worth the trouble to try and kill.
I mostly hung around the center but that's because I'm a reddithunter. I made it to number two, and I found number one on the outskirts of the map, but I left him alone because he wasn't reddit.
Okay, I think I'm done with this game since I got the mechanics down and only lost to a lag spike.
Tips:
- If you see anyone boosting chances are either they or their opponent is about to die and you can just follow them until it happens to leech off it. On that note, use your boost in small bursts and use it defensively because rushing will nearly always get you killed.
- Never let another player anywhere near your snakes head and especially never let them in front of you, you want them at least half a screen away and behind you as long as their head is visible. Use your boost, do u-turns and loop to make sure they never get near... Losing length is better than getting killed.
- Stay stretched out and don't bunch up, the smaller you get the more likely someone will try to wrap around you. Only constrict around others when no one is around as it makes you more vulnerable. If you see someone else doing it feel free punish them for it...
- You want to go half-way between the center and the rim on the map, it's the sweet spot of activity without randomly bumping into everyone and dying the second you lag. Ideally you want only two other snakes around, any more and it gets a tad chaotic.

I do this a lot. It's satisfying as hell to be near-default size but then sap up a huge snake after seeing signs of a battle that they might lose.

Once you get 50-100 you should be aggressively hunting any and every worm except the truly huge ones because they wont play your game.
You and all the other minnows are going to fight and die in the feeding frenzy whenever 1000+ size worms die.
When you yourself get to 1000+ you need to chill the fuck out, you actually got some progress, youre still a part of the feeding frenzy but you can throw your bulk around and section off parts of the food and constrict people who dont respect that.

When you first start out you should head to where ever lots of snakes and big snakes are congregating and hang around until one of them inevitably dies, eating whatever you come by until then.
