It looks like it'll be something fresh and new and from the trailer, provide a nice challenge.
The classic cartoon style is beautiful, it's something you haven't seen in a long time.
The only thing I could really complain about is the weird aesthetic over layering they do that makes it look like you're supposed to have 3D glasses on

Because it's a classic cartoon style but the gameplay isn't slapstick. When I think of a game based on a classic cartoon I'd expect more context sensitive battles where the villains have exaggerated reactions.

Why have the player characters shoot lasers at the bosses and have them just flash red while just doing the same animation with no interuption? Why not things the bosses react to, context sensitive attacks like dropping anvils?

I think Cuphead would be better if they made more animations for the bosses but just had less of them or whatever they need to do. The current style is ok, but personally I think it's kind of at odds with itself.

Cuphead actually draws everything out and it uses a bouncy vibrant style that makes everything seem full of life
Most of the other titles are pixelated sprites that can't really express as much due to graphical limitations
