The problem with the witcher wasn't it's graphics, it was all the bugs and inconsistently poorly flowing dialog. Dialog extra dialog options would often become available from random acts and they would be closed off seemingly randomly. You're not wrong as the book actually gave out false information and said that they died after getting married. Said something along the lines of Geralt dying of a heart attack and Yen dying from a broken heart. I was using the book as a reference to show that to the world they died in 1268 and were presumed to be dead for hundreds of years. No one really knew what happened just that they vanished during that time. Some say they died in the pogrom and some say that what happened in the fairy tale happened but no matter what it is clear to the world that they died.
I look at the Witcher universe as having three timelines. There is the main one which is what we see in the books and two alt ones which pop up form the games and from the short story that the author wrote about Geralt and Yen getting married instead of dying at Rivia. Keeps things easy and simple.
