RPGs were huge back in the days and I loved how the Japanese games had varied enviorments and unique themes. While the western games while usually better writing had some variation of elves,orcs and dwarves which was boring as fuck. It turned me off to western gaming until I was in my early 20s with the start of the 7th generation and thats when japanese games started to fall off and I started to try more western games. I feel like I missed out on a bunch of western classics but they don't appeal to me at all.

Kind of, but I never really bothered with 7th gen beyond a few games, even now. I'd played a few sports games and Grand Theft Auto as a kid, but I never really caught the gaming bug until I was 17. On a whim I went into EB games andI bought a PS2 second hand, and two games: Persona 4 and Guilty Gear XX #Reload.

I don't explicitly dislike western games in general. I just hate the AAA cinematic trash with just enough player input to be considered a video game that most westerners eat up. I do vastly prefer Japanese games, even if I wish the waifu pandering wasn't always so prevalent. I enjoy it sometimes, but it can get a bit overwhelming.
I want to be able to like a lot of western games, but that likely won't happen until they become video games again.
