Honestly, it's looking like it's trying to reach for a bridge too far.
It's admirable what the goal is from the trailers, but not even MGSV promised this much. This is borderline Spore-tier ambitious. You can't have an open world and a bunch of cinematic characters as the same time all interacting with each other. You either end up with repeating dialogue or huge spaces full of nothing.
Video games are GAMES, they are not simulations of life or interactive movies. You can add elements from movies, sure. But they need to be games, first and foremost.

As for FFXV, it could still easily get sequels made with the same engine. But what is even more likely is a series of DLC. Not only costumes, new cars and all other superfluous junk, but also new story. It could very well be Batman Arkham City all over again. But taken to ridiculous Square levels.
I think it will probably be decent at best. It will do some things well but will be hollow overall.

Well, since Wada left, the new CEO has publically come out and said they need to focus more on games besides Final Fantasy. And we finally got Dragon Quest games localized. And even some Japan only Final Fantasy games got localized.
They still have a very long way to go to redeem themselves. But they've at least done something. Unlike the 'Only Final Fantasy matters' Wada days.

Actually the fourth. FFVIII also sold more. And that was on just one system. If we start to compare games that were released on multiple systems, even FFIV could be compared to it.

It was way beyond a typical AAA game. They hired a bus to just drive around Japan and major US cities. They took out huge billboards in multiple countries. And many other things that go well beyond a typical AAA budget. Not to mention they started marketing the game 3 years before it came out. Even FFXV didn't start its marketing beyond trailers yet, with less than a year to go. But FFXIII was going hard on magazine and billboard ads over 2 years before launch. So early that billboards even had the wrong release date on them.
I wish it was good, but I'm worried that the open world will be as barren and meaningless as MGS5 and that the gameplay will be frustratingly bad when it comes to blows vs an enemy who isn't a slow piece of crap like the Iron Giant. It's simply too unpolished for an Action RPG. Game doesn't look nearly as good as FF13 does either. Everyone fell for the bullshot memes again, but that's a smaller problem than the gameplay and game world.

The director of FFXV has stated that the majority of the game, you can just sit in the car and avoid things on the overworld. Except for 'a few areas you can't use the car'.
Of course the game isn't out yet so we can't be sure. But to me, this sounds like the vast majority of the overworld will be empty. With just optional hunts and NPC quests. Which would make the huge overworld rather pointless. Games like FFX and XII had the same content with linear zones.
And it wouldn't be the first FF game to do this. FFXIV, an MMO, basically has a huge open world with nothing to do but fetch quests and hunts. We'll see when the final game comes out I guess.

My point wasn't about how much content there is. But about how every quest is a derivative of either an NPC fetch quest or optional hunts. Yes, some screens in FFXIV have 50+ quests. But when all 50 of those quests are the same 3-4 types of quests, it just becomes mindless busywork. Even worse when the quest just tells you where to go with a flashing indicator.
But even with all that, there's huge empty spaces in some zones. Especially the desert areas. There is plenty of room for them to put optional quests you find through exploration. But the game doesn't let you 'find' quests. You just find an NPC who tells you where to go.
If FFXV is like this, then I won't even bother playing it.

When I saw that environment footage and remembered the conversations in Duscae you could have with that couple at the Chocobo Ranch, it told me they were serious about making it an experience as much as making it a game.
This demo was such a mistake. The fucking framerate is worse than Episode Duscae. All this "tech demo" showcased is how unfinished the game is.
The combat is alright, but could be a lot better. The input delay is really bad. To showcase the aerial combat, they should've had a big mech enemy and not the Iron Giant. Shuriken are pretty much useless, and so is the shield except for maybe stunblocking.
Again, this demo is a rushed mistake and was completely pointless, and left a lot of people disappointed. I've watched tons of reactions, and ED received mostly positive feedback, PD left majority if people feeling unsatisfied and ultimately confused.
Tabata also recently said in a Jap interview that he doesn't plan to release another demo with proper combat, he wants to focus on the game. This is literally the last impressions they're leaving on people.
