Who would develop it? Naughty Dog made it pretty clear that they are done creating colorful fun platformers, and Crash wasn't a third-person shooter with linear climbing paths so they couldn't copy/paste the Uncharted engine to make it like they have with all their modern work. Also they don't own the IP.

That render made me think how neat Crash would be in Smash Bros. From my understanding, Crash Bandicoot is actually the highest selling western game IP in Japan, which I think is something to note in a series like SSB that's always been highly influenced by the east more than anything.
Mario and Link vs. Crash and Cloud would make for a fun matchup. It would be the N64 vs PSX.

I don't really know what they could do with him. Tunnel platforming seems like it would be a step back and I don't think the whole 90's radittude animal platforming mascot would be very appealing, and those are basically the two things that everyone remembers about Crash

Friends and I used to play CTR during every visit. It was like a ritual, a few grand prix in CTR, and then hours trying to get platinum in crash bash co op. Also 007 nightfire splitscreen.

In the past years we had games far superior to Crash Bandicoot. He no longer has a place nor a demand for him. We, the gaming community, outgrown Crash Bandicoot. Even Naughty Dog agrees.
