I want to like and enjoy the game but this demo gave a really bad impression. The combat just seems awful. One thing that really bugged me is the input lag and also just the way Noctis moves around just feels really clunky and not at all what you expect out of a modern game. What's up with that hitch when he lands from a jump? Just awful.

I rather enjoyed the demo. I assume you mean Batman combat, but I've played the recent Batman games, and liked them . . . and I still don't think the comparison is apt.
Playing it just made me think, people were shitting all over Nier's combat being bad, but man it was more fluid and had more impact than this for sure.

If anything I'm sick and bored of the quick snappy automatic response in so many games where the characters don't seem to have any weight to them, if it's an action game or a platformer sure, but this is an rpg having some weight and beleivable transitions between animations doesn't seem like the worst thing ever

720p is good enough as long as it run at 60.
It's six months from launch still, plenty of time to further refine the combat. Entire games have been made in almost that span of time. I'm sure it'll be improved for the final version.

Yes. Duscae didn't have weapon switching with the d-pad. In Duscae you'd assign weapons to functions, and the weapons would automatically be used based on the function. So you'd set a weapon for the first attack, for the combo attack afterwards, for the finishing attack, and for warp attacks, and they'd be used in each situation. That said you could also hit circle with the right timing to trigger your finishing attack weapon at any point during a combo to do extra damage, which is completely absent from Platinum.
I'm sure there were other differences too but that's the biggest one I can recall.
