My copy arrived on wednesday. the core game itself is fantastic, but it's lacking in some areas; survival mode is is more a chore than a challenge and people were put off at the lack of an arcade mode. It got me and my casual friend hooked and we play for a couple hours every day even though he never played fighting games before. The new tutorials and trials modes pretty much complete the game for me, making it easier to figure out what the different characters should be trying to do.
Lack of arcade/story mode is disappointing but by no means a deal breaker, they don't really get you playing the real game, they just provide some nice context that I can live without cause these are already established characters. I'd argue that the small storys that are already in the game serve that purpose without having to grind out too many boring AI matches. Survival mode is the only real missed opportunity here, better AI and more persistent progression powerups like guilty gear MOM mode would be infinitely better.

He wasn't the main guy behind SF2. It was Akiman, Okamoto, and Nishitani (the latter being the main guy at Arika, company famous for its SFEX characters like Skullomania). Sure, there was already SF1 to start the franchise, but Akiman's designs helped fuel the franchise even further along with Kinu's artwork, etc. Besides, SF1 was trash so it's not like the series TOOK off with SF1, and the "genius" behind that game went to work for SNK instead.
And Street Fighter 3 even being part of the series at all that you elitist vocal minority love to fap to? SF3 wasn't even going to be part of SF3 until Akiman decided to just call it that due to execs always bothering him and his coworkers to make something part of some existing franchise (like Final Fight -> Street Fighter 89).

Let's put aside the shitposting for a second. Is Capcom going to actually make any money off selling characters in the shop? You can make up like half the cost of a character through story mode, trials and survival mode. Doing everything up to Normal Mode puts you at around level 20, which is 20k bonues FM.
If you're insane enough to do Hard and Hell mode, that's another 20k+. That's not even going into how Alex is free for a while, which means you can soak up his FM opportunities and then drop him entirely.
Then you have the FM from the 16 other characters. There's just no real incentive to spend real money. It's great for us, but I have to wonder what Capcom was thinking and whether it'll kill the game down the line.
