I'm getting real tired of this "too deep for you" bullshit.

The game was great, why must they abstract the story to the point where absolutely nothing is clear. I don't have the slightest idea what the fuck was the point of everything.

They reused the exact same cut scene through out the entire game, they even scrapped almost everything the trailer showed. Even the kickstarter stated the game was to be about "exploring lost worlds in search of technology" and instead we get some vague story about a dying main character (I think? he coughed up 5 litters of blood through the game and nothing happened) and something about a dog?

I have absolutely no idea how is it that it took them more than 3 years to develop this game. Even the music is extremely basic, there was no point in hiring Disasterpeace because all music in the game was nothing but repeating ambient sounds, even the ost they released almost 2 years ago was much better than anything in the game.

Actually there isn't a single thing in the kickstarter page that made it to the game, even the guys that pledged the 1k to design a boss ended up with nothing.

I heard the guy that started the kickstarter has a terminal illness and they had to scrape everything to make it in time, since they didn't even include the co-op.

What happened?

the gameplay barely changed since the demo, its pretty easy if you got used to it

the stuff that didn't make

>not a single enemy from the kickstarter, including the bosses
>not an open world game with loot, like the developer wanted
>no vehicles
>no dynamic lightning
>not a single weapon from their tumblr dev blog like the different grenades and bombs
>people that bought the enemy designs got nothing
>story was about the MC looking for a cure for his illness, not sure what is it we got

basically everything from their kickstarter page
>>

I don't remember vehicles being mentioned, but yeah, now that I think about it, none of the enemies that they showed in the updates are in the game.

Yeah, it's shit.

Beat it in four hours as well, what a joke.

The exploration is not rewarding at all and feels like a fucking hassle, the bosses are nice but the game suffers severely from input lag/30 fps.

I was expecting an open-worldish game as well where you could explore at your own pace to find all kinds of neat shit, but this is just a glorified linear shit with four small areas.

>>
lmao, do people not realize that this is a thing that happens?

Just because they make a bunch of things in development doesn't mean any of it would make it into the final version.

Sunless Sea? Use to have turn-based combat on Every. Single. Encounter.

Combat was eventually completely overhauled in favor of real-time fighting.

They didn't "promise" vehicles. Vehicles were just in early showcases.

Also, if you're going to claim the guy who donated 1k to design a boss "ended up with nothing" you better damn well post a source to back that up.

Otherwise you're blowing smoke clear out your ass.

Incompetence from what I can tell. Those stretch goals were terribly planned out. Promising new features for a difference of only 10~20k? That's not even close to the amount you need to properly implement important additions.

A co-op function is bloody difficult to properly design, that should have been the last fucking stretch goal. By promising that early on, the devs doomed every other stretch goal on the list, so it's no surprise that they completely failed to implement anything at all. They probably wasted a ton of money trying to get it to work, only to later realize just how much effort it would take.

It's showing progress. Again, just because it's not in the game isn't dishonest. I mean the game made it's initial funding goal in 24 hours. Everything after that was just additional icing on an already complete cake.

Admittedly a co-op mode seems odd for a game with such a heavy platform/positional element to it.

Core Mechanics

Primary weapon - Composed of phase shifted Hard Light (also known as Solid Light), your sword acts as the primary means of offense; it's quick, brutal, and can slash through most anything. Best of all it never runs low on energy.
Sprite Companion - An indispensable personalized drone, the Sprite manages your inventory virtually, maintains your shields, seeks out hidden paths and lights the way in the darkest of times. Functionality may be expanded with new modules.
Secondary items - You'll come across a variety of advanced weaponry, items and gear throughout your travels; Light Rail Pistols, Heavy Rifles, various hi-power explosives and enemy-aware Seeker Drones. All of these are powered by limited batteries, found scattered throughout the world.
Defense System - A rechargeable Hard Light Diamond shield which offers total protection from attacks for a short burst of time. If timed correctly projectiles can be reflected back at enemies for extra damage. Can be upgraded to extend duration.
Dash Module - Multi-use gear that enables a triple speed dash; can be used to evade attacks, cut across gaps and chasms, break through certain blocks and rubble and even stun enemies.

Actually, there was a specific reason for the 30 FPS and it was explained as something to do with transitions and animations? And how 60 FPS literally didn't contribute a thing to that except make it more disorientating?

Or something along those lines. Basically, 60 FPS on this sort of game, with this art-style, wouldn't have done ANYTHING to make the game look or play any better. So why does it matter that they're not using 60 FPS?

I've put 5 hours into this game and still have only beaten 2 bosses. I fucking love this game. The difficulty, the aesthetics, the tight controls, the abstract storytelling...The only thing I wish it didn't have was atmospheric music for boss battles. Boss fights should be hype. But instead its just loud and continues the atmospheric trend of the music. I get what the game is going for, but at least give me memorable boss music.

The combat and gameplay don't coincide with the music at all. Most rooms and bosses you're dodging around trying to either chip down the boss between attacks or taking out smaller enemies but the music is just so out of place, thats my biggest complaint outside of the 30fps lock, which is also bullshit.
>>
>>332917923
I admit, I sort of expected distinct boss music, but what we got was louder atmospheric tunes and more "ambiance"-style during the major fights.

I can understand if that was an aesthetic the dev is going for but it does make the fights themselves less memorable, with the exception of the actual game mechanics.
>>
I'm 11 hours in and have yet to finish it, I'm enjoying find all the secret stuff
Has anyone else managed to get back to the starting area?
>>
I have played the game for 20 hours and here's what I have to say.

I love the aesthetics. The music fits and the visuals are amazing. If you don't like this sort of game that's fine but this is how the game looked like when it was Kickstarted and those that backed it wanted this kind of game from a visual/atmospheric standpoint. I like how there's barely any text and everything is told with symbols and pictures. I thought the presentation was perfect overall. I can see why some people would want the game 60fps and there's no doubt it'd benefit. But I didn't find 30 fps to be an issue in my time with the game.

I expected the game to be shorter than it is. In my 20 hours of playing, I still have 3 monoliths to find along with 5 more keycards and I don't know how many doors to open. The end boss is left too. The game is surprisingly rewarding in its challenge but some of that has problems I'll talk about later.

I actually really enjoyed the exploration. You had to really explore every wall sometimes and carefully use the map to find everything. I can completely understand why some people would dislike it but I felt rewarded when I found and obscure switch or platform to a new area.

The combat is probably where the game shines. It needs more of it. The bosses were great and reminded me of Ys games. You have to be quick and position or you can die fast. I look forward to playing on ng+.

The problem I have with the game is the input lag. Dashing around in this game is great fun when it's working and the platforming or dash challenges are rewarding to be able to complete. But they are a fucking pain in the ass when the game drops inputs or has delays. This literally makes certain sections impossible sometimes. It's a fucking travesty cause the game would be a dream to play if it wasn't for this annoyance. I was able to still enjoy the game cause I wanted to keep going and play more but it would have been so much better if they fucking fixed that shit.

>>332918734
That's part of the development process, they opted to be very transparent so you're seeing a lot more content that was cut than most games

I can guarantee you that near every game you've ever played has gone through a similar process
>>
>>332918714
Explore every place and find every secret (temmie village and such) while also making sure to walk all the way back at the end before going through the door took 12 hours after including getting stuck a few times at bosses, especially just for figuring out Undyne. Then genocide's I got stuck and took a few hours just to beat Undyne the Undying and still have yet to beat sans. Thus a grand total of 24 hours. If it means anything, I do tend to do a lot of walking back and forth to find new things and examining as much as possible.

Why the fuck would you want or need that armor

Welp, got this from a steam thread regarding the 30fps issue:

>We absolutely value performance on as many systems as possible. We have done everything we could to test on a multitude of systems, but of course there are configurations and outliers that we could not account for.

>There's a contentious debate about frame rate these days. I think it comes down to personal opinion and preference on many different games. As a gamer, I very much enjoy games at 60, of course, and feel that some games NEED it to be at their best - modern shooters as the prime example.

>I've never had much issue with games at 30, and in fact many of my favorites are locked at that rate: Bloodbourne, Nuclear Throne, Souls games, many Zelda games, Mario 64, Undertale, etc.

>Hyper Light plays as intended at 30fps locked, and we feel confident, great about the end result. We realize some may not agree, and some refuse to play games at 30 these days.

>We have investigated the possibility of a 60fps option. This is a HUGE endeavor, and would take months (three at minimum) of labour to retool all the systems that are dependent on frame timing, to make major optimizations to the game so it runs on all the same machines it does now. This is no small task for us.

There you go.
>>

I never even mentioned whether it's good or bad

but it's nice to see how you got triggered immediately and try to change the topic
>>
>>332918840
Similar to Zelda? But it's NOTHING like Zelda.

Exploration is redundant, there are no quests/sidequests, it has NO PUZZLES.

God, these fucking shills.
>>
>>332918947

look at the thread, they pretty much made 2 different games and released the shitty one
>>
>>332918742
I am usually playin at 25-60 fps as an idort and this game here is fast paced and hast shitty framerate mixed with fast paced action and frame drops out of the ass. It is vomit inducing, in 9 hours I actually confused my own character once with a fucking pepe frog when my eyes started to loose focus and I could not focus anymore on the action. Never had that outside of 20 guy+ raids in mmorpgs or similiar shit where 20 guys all cast sparkly shit at the same time over n over plus mobs.

The sprite art in this game simply looks like garbage. It's very basic and simple. Everything looks flat and some of the shading is just a blurry mess. The aesthetic of the characters and monsters is also very nu-pixel with big bodies and tiny stick limbs. Not sure why people got so excited over this in the first place, but I still feel sorry for the people who donated a lot to this game but didn't get anything they donated for.
>>
>>332918936
Sorry, I missed your post saying a slight headache.

Funny enough I suffered a slight headache the first few hours I played, but it turns out I was dehydrated, rather than it being the game. That's what I get for being lazy.

Maybe because this thread is supposed to be about HLD and not fucking Undertale, why do you keep pushing that shit? Literally worse than MLP at this point.

Fuck, now I'M talking about it by proxy, fuck you.

>>332919040
Woah a slightly different grenade the game is ruined forever
>>
>>332919093

>Not sure why people got so excited over this in the first place

the game they promised AND originally developed was completely different.

Just look at the devblog.

how the fuck
>>
>>332919030
its also described as being like diablo with 0 loot, that is the creator of the games description, may as well toss the zelda+diablo bullshit into the pile of broken kickstarter promises, turned out to just be another 2hard5u souls ripoff, but without the atmosphere exploration and items
>>
>>332918881
wrong. you are not even allowed to fight a single boss without doing this hidden bullshit faggotry. Even when you found enough to challenge all 4 bosses you still need to grind more hidden shit for the final boss. Utter mandatory BS.
>>

Use the small piece of land sticking out of the water

Believe it or not you can actually dash to and stand on it. Trust me, that threw me off the first time I saw it as well.

Christ the pixel art in this game is absolute shit. Even Fez had more effort put into it.

>see this game years ago
>that looks cool
>stuck in dev hell forever; forget it exists
>hear it has finally come out
>go to steam to buy it right away
>30fps lock

the incompetence is astounding

I hope all the promised stuff was archived before the dev starts deleting everything and backtracking.

>>332918785
>drone signals you when there are invisible platforms
>all fake walls have a tell near them like different colored floor tile or debris near them

Things people just rushing through the game wouldn't notice. And if you don't like this kind of thing and exploring and don't think finding stuff in a game is fun than what the fuck are you doing playing this style of game anyway? Not gonna have waypoints or some bullshit like that. Do you people hate Zelda, metroid, castlevania, souls etc too? Goddamn

this is literally untrue, a solid 60 game will objectively play better than a solid 30 game, any opinion and difference in opinion comes from ignorance and nothing else

>nothing like Zelda
>no puzzles
>no point in exploration
How the hell do you come to these conclusions about Hyper Light Drifter?
>game requires you to travel an overworld using melee combat to beat monsters while looking around and finding secrets (in HLD's case, that either get you more money or more healing items) all while trying to figure out how to get from a location to the boss
>getting to the boss oftentimes involves figuring out how to get doors open
>game has one major town akin to the prevalence of Hyrule Castle Town

>>332919226
sadly true.

After clearing two initial areas I was too bored to even fucking purchase upgrades because upgraded dash and an upgraded shotgun make t he game so fucking easy.

What garbage.

But the point still stands. Many games, many POPULAR games, run in 30fps. And they're pretty good games too (Bloodbourne, Souls, etc)

And these games were made in 30fps. Clearly the framerate didn't hurt them at all, in terms of sales or popularity.
