I don't remember it being this short. I beat the thing in just under 2 days. While Underground - Most Wanted took me a week or two. Really wasn't as fun as I remembered. Felt like a heavily watered-down version of MW.

Pro Street I'm not sure what to think right now. It's not bad but not very enjoyable either.

It certainly was the most feature-rich, but it did the same mistake as Underground 2 by creating a city first and adding race tracks second, almost as an afterthought. The result is just shitty tracks that are not fun to play through, all for the sake of having an "open world" that no one really asked for.
Underground 1, with it's shitty rubberbanding and mariocart-tier arcade controls still is the better racing experience for it.

I tried it after it went free on Origin inb4 >Origin and I was baffled at the game.
It was so bland and sterile. The game has no personality, no attitude, not even a backdrop to anything and the music is garbage.

Pretty much. Felt the same way about Criterion's HP. I can't explain why but the cars handling just felt off to me. It lacked the easiness of driving a car like in HS,MW,even Carbon. Although HP2 (the PC version at least) gameplay felt like shit too.

Underground takes a lot because the rubberbanding is fucking disgusting. On hard there are certain races where the AI takes turns literally 3 times as fast as you ever could. So there's lot of repeat.

I agree that U1 is more enjoyable to play throught but god damn did it have some issues
>Introduces money, but you can never fucking spend it, meaning you never need to go hard mode
>I tried to not defile the basic look of the cars and by the end of the game I spent like 10-15k at most including car changes
>FORCES you to upgrade your cars with stupid nitrous shit
>Fucking tons of spots where if you clip a magic pixel you instantly stop
>Tons of spots where there are pillars in the middle of the track that instantly stop you (Though finding the perfect racing line through them is satisfying as fuck)
>Traffic can and will fuck you over, it's always a guessing game whether you'll get fucked coming out of a turn at high speed
>Drifting with certain cars (240sx and Rx-7) is a goddamn nightmare that you can barely control
>Skyline is so much better than the other cars it's ridiculous
>Certain cars have starting bias, where in the beginning of the race they dart forward, Impreza, Eclipse, Skyline and I bet more are guilty of this
>The cutscenes have aged very poorly
>The ranking progression makes no sense, you keep racing the same guys, even though you've beat them, but somehow they ranked up without going past you
>Drag races are poorly designed, where in some tracks if you go perfectly you can't steer in time and get totalled or the traffic lines up perfectly to fuck you over
>Fucking 4:3 lock, while previous games supported widescreen
I can probably think of some more but these stand out the most.

>Small start bias, but still there
>Absolute nightmare to drift, but you can score ridiculous points if you somehow tame it
>Have to let go of the gas in order to go through certain places (like the japanese garden) perfectly
>Very tight perfect shift timing in drag

Skyline
>Ridiculous start bias, on par with Eclipse. At the start you have the lead
>Complete control in drift, so much so you have to use the handbrake to even go sideways
>Perfect control, can hold down the gas as much as you want
>Lenient perfect shift timing in drag
>Faster(Or at least the stats say so)

>>Certain cars have starting bias, where in the beginning of the race they dart forward, Impreza, Eclipse, Skyline and I bet more are guilty of this
They're all four wheel drive. That was probably intentional.
>>
>>332915920
I felt like skyline was too understeery in normal races while the rx7 was a dream to drive and also took skill due to suprise! oversteer when maxed out.

Biggest problem with the rx7 is that it was a 5 speed and it would overheat way sooner in drag races, drifting was fine with it though

Do you deny there's a shift in concept and execution between Hot Pursuit 2 and Underground?
Has ANY of the more recent NFS picked up the concept and execution found prior to Underground?

Like it or not, the series moved far away from its roots, and what its roots used to be, is hardly found anywhere nowadays, especially not in the NFS series. So, if anybody actually likes what NFS used to be, then yes, the successors are shit, simple as that.

I replay Hot Stakes regularly, for a reason. No other NFS comes even close to it, none. That career mode is absolutely unparalleled, and it made me so mad that EA didn't have the balls to put it in Most Wanted. I occasionally whip out TNFS, but it doesn't hold up well, except for a pause filler. NFS2 has been panned since day one, because it's much worse than TNFS. It took Hot Pursuit to turn things around, and indeed it is still fine, though I prefer High Stakes. Never got Porsche to run.

In MW you can ignore the open world by just jumping to the races from the map.

In U2 the open world is forced on you, later on you have to search for the races because they don't show up on the minimap.
>>
>>332919957
fuck me, why do I keep saying Hot Stakes? HIGH Stakes of course. It introduced pink slip races. Lose a race, lose your car. Cancel a race? You lose automatically. Compare with Most Wanted. Lose a race? Retry until you win. Cancel a race? Retry until you win. No consequences, no danger, no thrill. Pink slip races in Most Wanted are such a big old middle finger to High Stakes, it's painful

Open World is terrible for an NFS, but NFSU isn't one either, so it works. The open world in NFSU helped the game greatly. I haven't used the fast travel option in the game ever, not even to go to the garage. The game didn't need one at all.

The game physics would break depending on the FPS (or at least that's what I remember) and it would boost the speed of all cars, except I don't have the accuracy of the AI.

If not for rubberbanding, they'll have to make the AI really precise, making the game even more difficult, rubberbanding allows for easy overtaking, AI that easily masters any type of corner results in you standing behind his back waiting for him to fuck up, but never actually does.
TL;DR rubberbanding is ok in tolerable dosage.

>That reminds me, what was the thing with that La Nina car in HS? I remember it beign the most expensive even thouse it was worse than the McLaren.
The game is from a time when price was not necessarily related to speed. These games included prototypes and other cool rarities
