The clunky animation/movement makes the combat feel like a steaming pile of shit.
The only thing that annoyed me about the combat is the camera. It is way way too close to noctis without any way to distance it. This makes seeing anything to the sides or behind you impossible to see or react to.

That doesn't negate the fact that the combat is actually pretty deep, and obviously in the full game where you have party members and can die and fight more than one enemy, there will be opportunities to get creative.

So this is it huh? /v/ filled with Casuals? While most of the demo IS filler tech demo shit, that final fight with the golem and the vastly improved combat system makes it all worth it.
Seriously, you niggas can do aerial combat, all sorts of blocks and dodges, each weapon has multiple special moves, and a surprising amount of depth for a stripped down demo.
Oh, and if you do use the right timing, YOU CAN perfect dodge cancel from MOST attack animations- there are some that you can't (mostly great sword), air attacks you must use an aerial rave dodge, which has more strict timing and doesn't require any presses of square at all. Not every attack can be dodged by holding down square. Some attacks you must have pressed square within a certain time frame of the enemies attack.
I uploaded some videos of me doing fun stuff in the fight, maybe it can inspire you fags to not be total casuals and to try and learn the game.

The only things they need to fix are the framerate and frametiming since it fucks up some of your dodges and locked framerate should be a must for an ARPG

I'd say it's not as big a deal as it used to be, since the discs install. GTA V had an install disc and a disc that played the game, and I haven't heard anyone complain about that in years. The problem is that variations of mashing attack and warping somewhere else and repeat is unfortunately a valid strategy to clear the game. Which is why there is certainly some validity in the criticism but honestly when the Japanese think the gameplay is hard and are casual, there's not too much hope for the combat is getting any more complex in any way to just play for the story.

To all the people saying how much diversity there is in the combat system by using the cancels and warping, what you don't realize is that it's much more efficient to just keep attacking. You can easily outdamage enemies much faster than some of the "combos" I've seen people doing. in this thread. There's no point in playing around with the shuriken and all that, it's ineffective to just exploiting the shitty combat system. Sure, it's easier, but the attacks in this game are extremely assisted anyway, they probably just should have expanded on Duscae's combat by adding in attack cancelling/block cancelling like we all wanted. The parry system could've been a tweaked a bit and it would've worked beautifully with cancelling an attack into a block. For goodness sakes, Ninja Gaiden for Xbox Huge's combat system is infinitely better than this game's.

You will get several team up attacks with its own skill trees, not even getting into the depth of the magic system or the fact if you mash buttons like that, the enemies will just grab you and crit on you. Or just run.
No one really has an aversion to turn based combat, this is just want they want to do with the game. Dislike it if you want, but don't begrudge them trying new things, that is the core of what the series was always about.
