This game is fucking hard. At least for me. What do you think?
>>
I think you're a casual

I died 4 times on the last boss, and a couple times on one of the previous bosses. It felt nicely balanced, overall.

I just finished it. Clocked in at 5 hours 59 minutes.

You can't skip cinematics on subsequent playthroughs. Gay.

Did anyone open the four piece door up in the snow mountain?

I got all the shards from that place but I cant open it anyway, they just light up and stay closed.

Had any problems in regular fights? I'm kinda stuck atm. Haven't unlocked any skills yet. At the first boss.

Oh, and are skill points / "money" really this hard to come by? Or am I missing stuff?
>>
I know the Wii U version is still in "limbo" which is bullshit. Can anyone tell me if they actually added co-op in the game? The stretch goals were met and stated that it would be present, but GOG and Steam both mark this game as single player only.

Playing with keyboard and mouse is way more difficult than with Joystick...

My Joy works but the buttons are fucked up and it doesn't have a button to shoot...

They're the yellow card things. You find them in dungeons, scattered around the overworld, and after bosses.

Had a bit of trouble just before the final boss. I also got lost in the East biome for a while.

I'm guessing you've seen the vendors in town.

Then they shouldn't have promised it as an option or they should come out and say it's not happening and give me a fucking steam key. The link they emailed me literally takes me to a page that says "wait for console releases"

Look, I get it. You guys like your hard games. I grew up when every game was hard, then over time they got easy. Then they got too easy. Someone remembered hard games, but apprently their mother drank too much when she was pregnant with them because what they decided we needed was this hipster -measuring hard but somehow boring game t.

I hate Demon Souls, Dark Soulses and all that . Those games are boring as hell. (I spent the better part of a decade writing business software, don't argue with my credentials when it comes to knowing boring when I see it) They replace coherant world building with obtuseness and don't-look-behind-the-the-curtain writing. (See Also: Lost, the tv show that everyone praised then relized was also garbage) This game takes that idea and runs with it apparently. I can't tell you with any authority, since I'm done with this game. Back in 2014 I heard the Disasterpiece (big fan, btw, will probably buy the soundtrack) saw the trailer and put down my money. Then I waited, lets see, about 18 months for this stylish abortion. I made it about 30 minutes in to the game and, being the smart guy that I am, pieced together what the next few dozen hours were going to look like. (Spoiler alert: some cool Fez-inspired forum-bait bogged down by hours of frustrating combat)

Here's the thing. I don't have that much time. At this point, I've spent as much time on this review as I have on the game. I'm just hoping I can save someone else the frustration. And frustration is the word. The game looks and sounds and feels gorgeous, but it gates that away behind challenges it doesn't earn.

Just finished it. Not gonna bother with finding all the extra crystals and whatnot.Really overhyped sack of shit this was. It's not hard, just trial and error. And what was the Aids that everyone was coughing from?

Are there any places you know not to go to even if there aren't any barriers closing them? After I reached the top of the snow mountain, I found 2 ways, to go. One had a teleporter and an elevator, while the other was just some platforming and then an elevator, but the second place seemed way harder, with the floor falling and the weird gun men shooting at me

If you're not the type that likes to explore a lot and try to 100% it, then yeah, it's probably too short for 20 $. And just to clarify, not trying to belittle you, we all got our preferences and I know there's plenty of people that don't enjoy exploring old areas and shit.

Personally I love it so I've gotten 10 hours out of it so far and I've yet to explore the south area.

This is a huge step in VR.

Please do what I did and take off the technophile hat for one day and just enjoy the content in VR. For me, I purposefully put my tech opinions aside and just let the content in, and it was absolutely glorious. I simply can't wait for what the next 5 years have to offer for VR...that is...

<rant>

..if you fucking crybabies don't ruin the entire VR business before it has a chance to take off. This is the only real problem. Your incessant complaining is like the guy in the movie theater bitching at full volume about some minor detail that quite literally nobody else in the theater (currently enjoying the movie) gives a flying fuck about. Stop giving snarky quote snippets to gaming press that are too lazy to come up with their own opinions as those opinion pieces shape the buying decisions for the larger market. Articles written in those voices can torpedo a the entire VR industry before it has a chance to even get started. VR HAS to go wide or it will never take off.

Everybody that's boo-hoo'ing about FOV, light rays, and apples/oranges feature comparison needs to chill. This first gen hardware (yes, first gen) and as with all first gen hardware it will contain compromises that will need to be revised to further the state of the art. Yes, the Vive has other features, so does the gear, so does the PSVR, and guess what - some of us like all 4 and will support all of them wherever the content is.

It blows my mind the level of "expert" commentary on these topics. Please, just stop for a second - take a breath - and try to enjoy the content in this new medium and judge the experience on those merits. Yes, there will be things that suck - just like there were things that sucked about 1st gen LCD monitors, or 1st gen iPhones/Androids, or 1st gen consoles. The first real handheld game console was 2 bit color greyscale and 5x the size of a modern smartphone with no backlight. There were no pitchforks back then, why so many now?
>>
>>332768205

Nothing is hard but the bosses, and even those only take several minutes tops. There's barely even a punishment for death.

The game is okay, like a watered down LttP with a bit more depth to combat and some interesting flair. For a game that several people worked on for a few years on a $650k crowdfunding budget it doesn't have a whole lot to show for itself. Still worth at least one playthrough, there aren't many games like it coming out anymore.

Why are people complaining about difficulty?

The game is very lenient about death, its not like you get thrown in the city every time you die to a room of monsters.

If you want to complain, at least say how you "tried hundred of times" or something. I managed to learn the first boss in like 6 deaths, many did it in less, someone out there probably did it in one go, it ain't impossible.

If I wanted to complain about the game, I would say how it doesn't explain anything, you just cant talk to anyone except for images, and you dont have a chance to get currency at all before you see the first NPC vendor, so you get utterly confused by it. And even with that, eventually just playing the game you learn how things work.
>>
>>332776060
No.
>>
I haven't run into any bosses yet. Went North first but the dungeons wore me d9wn and I ran into a part with a load of turrwts and a shielded teleporter.

Then I went West, found a load of upgrade parts and got the chain dash. West seems a lot easier compared to North, the samurai wolves are easy to dodge.
>>
>>332777373
>you dont have a chance to get currency at all before you see the first NPC vendor, so you get utterly confused by it.
How would you get confused by what was obviously the upgrade menu?
>>
Facefuck every wall, fight the bosses over and over. You have 5 health pips, every enemy does 1-2 damage an attack and you can be struck after getting pancaked.

Frustrating combat that felt kind of shitty. Runs at 30fps despite being 2d. Kind of interesting setting. I would pirate.
>>
>>332771597
You have to beat the game to play co-op ? What kind of idea is that ?
>>
Something about it feels kinda off, just in the way it moves. Not really sure why.

It's okay though. I beat the bird boss in the north area and got to the waypoint thing to the west.
>>

Why not just plain old SNES Zelda controlls without even using the mouse?

Those gun guy gauntlets are very, very hard. I explored north first and quit once the turrets showed up. I'll continue exploring once I've unlocked a few upgrades.
>>
why is people going for other routes at the beginning of the game besides North when you are explicitly shown that top is the first place you should go?
I don't have anything against non-linear games but just by playing vidya for years, I know that areas where the player isn't supposed to go until later in the game usually are more difficult or your need upgraded gear to even get all the secrets and stuff. So going there in the first place is pointless, unless you already played the game and know that you can beat an alternative route.

Shit you might not have found out yet:

-If you unlock a costume, there are separate terminals in your house to change out cloak, sword, and robot friend. You can mix and match colors.

-In the east you can drift onto a small lily pad to get to a secret.

-When you're near a ledge with invisible platforms nearby, your floaty robot will ping you with a '?' symbol. Not too hard to suss out their location after that.

-The drift stab only does one damage, but it pushes, stuns, and deals extra damage for every enemy and wall you push your target into. Try drift+stabbing dudes into packs of other dudes and corners.

-You can drift very quickly after charging up your cleave attack. Cleave+drifting is stronk.

-The game uses forced camera orientations to hide secret areas very often. If you're moving around a room and the camera keeps janking around to highlight one area or another, look for hidden passages around the spots it covers up.

-On controller, hold down LT to aim. Seems obvious but helps out shooting a hell of a lot. Also, aim to peek around rooms for secrets.

Copypasta or not, this is true. I played the alpha demo and thought the exact same at first, the actual combat is shit mostly because the level design is garbage. But then again people told me that with the upgrades and shit the game can get really fun.

Just beat the western boss, and I think I'm going to let it here, the game's just not fun and misses so much of the points it tries to take from Zelda.

Art and music are god-tier though, a shame really..

Pinkish red: Get at the entrance to the southern section
Deep blue: The 10 key door at the start of the northern section
I've also got White & Blue and Green sets but I don't remember where I got them.
>>
>>332785404
You get pink after you talk to the other soldier for the 4th time.

Guys, there's also a glitch that happened to me. If you talk to that guy to get the crystal locations then die, the spots will stay on your map. However, you can do talk to them again and it will stack more markers on top. I have 3 stacked now. Not only that, but it will actually progress their location story. So if you die after talking to them in the first area 4 times you will get their costume and see their backstory.

North or East.

South is locked off.

East's area is a bit difficult, but it's boss is a pushover.

North's area is a little less difficult, but it's boss is a bit tougher.

West's area will kick your balls in, and you'll probably need 100+ resets to beat the boss. No one does west first except for the retard who didn't know what upgrade points were.

No, he's right. You really don't want to get hit.

Dash twice per sword swing for the first half of his health (then attack twice), dash thrice per sword swing for the second half of his health (then attack twice), and don't stop moving when he stops. Most importantly is to lure him into smashing the fuck out of his helpers on his first go at you.

He's pretty easy, but if you get hit once you'll take a fuck ton of damage. Or at least I did (only 5 health).

>>332799025

Probably both. Most of the game was ok though, it was mainly the spiketraps that killed me. Jesus fuck, the key behind that fucking road of spikes to the west killed me probably 30 times. I learned that since I can't dash through it (only one dash), I had to walk over the trap, walk back, walk up to the next one before the previous one re-arms itself, walk back, and repeat until I made it. There was less than a few frames of leeway the whole fucking way. I was pissed when I found out I had to do the exact same thing going back too.

Just finished last boss on 3rd try, i give it a 7 / 10, which is generous since most indies are trash .
West boss was hardest and took about 6 tries.

I can't stand how abstract everything is. In addition to nothing resembling anything I'm familiar with, there are also no words and everything is communicated with gestures

I've never felt more like I'm in a completely alien world and it fills me with nothing but frustration

Upgrading is not that important and if you're in the flow, I recommend you stick to the area you're in and don't teleport out, as it causes the monsters to respawn. If you want to dig in to the area and find the hidden shit (of which there is LOTS) then I recommend you tought it out.

Also, remember, you can refill health and ammo at the teleport station by interacting with it and it won't make you leave the area

You know, for all the stuff people have talked about, no one's mentioned the fact that THERE ARE NO WORDS. Seriously, outside of the menu and the initial tutorials, there are no words (written or spoken) in dialogue, shops, etc.
I think that's kinda cool, especially how people are arguing about what stuff is called, but everyone knows what "Doritos" are once you see them.
I'm only about an hour in, though. Maybe that changes.

welp, that's retarded enough for caps locks to be mandatory.

Anyways, no you don't have to, but it's really, really meant to be played with a controller.

Like, the controls on keyboard fucking SUCK.

Controller controls are pretty much perfect except for shooting, which is still manageable.
>>
>>332768205
It is quite hard in the beginning when you don't have skills, but I feel it is well balanced once you get used to the controls etc. I'm currently in the last area with 3 gem things done, I died a few times to each boss, but they aren't bullshit hard, you just have to learn their moves like DS. So yeah it's pretty hard for a current year game but I like it.

The game is challenging, a bit annoying sometimes, sometimes the hitboxes are a bit wonky, sometimes the controls are a bit obtuse (particularly the fact that sometimes drifter won't cancel into dashes and other times he will), but overall it's not very difficult by any means. The real challenge in the game is finding all the hidden shit and I do not have anywhere near enough patience to do that

So I'm currently going through birdcock land, gotten 4 pieces and beaten the boss, now going through a hidden east way unlocked via a gun shooty thing that leads to 1000000000 dropkick birds

I just don't know
the combat is alright, the exploration can be nice, and I like collecting things

But I'm really getting tired of the hump every wall, smack every thing, hump every ledge to find shit, because it is getting really tedious.

It's like yes, that different color smudge or little off texture on the wall is technically a clue that there's a secret there, but that same thing is on a billion other walls/pits in the area and there's nothing special about them.

Finding the secrets and shit in the game is just getting tedious because for every 'aha, this is different and I feel clever' there are 2-3 'oh, this one is just a hump the wall secret'

That's my one major complaint about this game.

For every good hint they give you, there's a bunch of "hump this wall, then go hump the other wall" secrets.

Noticing something a little off in order to grab a secret is fine, but not if there's no fucking indication that there's a secret there at all.
>>
>>332798142
I killed him first try.
>>
>>332810868

>kbm

don't do that

>bird boss

you can smack him like 8 times when he returns to the middle to summon the birds. Just make sure to smack the birds and him with the same swing.

Once you do that, you should have plenty of gun powered up, so just stay a healthy distance away for the parts where he launches tiles at you and shoot him.

Then rinse and repeat ~5-8 times and you should be good.
>>
>>332777365

Hey, uh, speaking of that particular area. I think I broke it? I talked to that guy who you get the waypoints from in that area, died on an exploding crystal spike trap, restarted the zone, got back to him and this time he had a little story for me and then he died. Giving me his costume?

But now all my waypoints have doubled up. I'm also having a ton of trouble even finding them but I don't think that's related. Even a previously reached switch has a second waypoint claiming that I haven't touched it yet but I reinvestigated and nothing could be done.
>>
>>332813556

the doubling up is a fairly well known glitch now, but it's only cosmetic. It doesn't actually affect anything.

When you collect something, it stays collected. The first indicator changes color to show you've gotten it. The second indicator just doesn't go away.

Like for example, in the first place with the birds there's three instadeath crusher blocks, and a couple papers below one, the papers are an indicator that the wall isn't real and you can get a key block thing there.

However, those papers are on the walls fucking everywhere and I don't think there's a single other time that they have meant 'there's a secret here'

It is getting really fucking old, really fucking fast

Is it possible to dash more than 3 times in a row? it keeps stopping me.
>>
>>332810738
I just got the first shard or whatever and I'm still not seeing it.

Step it up senpais.
>>
Had my first crash. I think it was caused by getting a card in my steam inventory.
>>
Bottom-line it to me bros.

Worth a buy or not?
>>
>>332814609
you can chain dashes until you run out of meter
>>
>>332814828
ah, there is a meter. gotcha
>>
>>332813550
>>kbm
>don't do that
I feel like the game would be leagues easier if kbm was implemented properly. I'm almost convinced that's why it's designed for controllers. That and ps4xbonebux
>>
>>332814816
i pirated it and felt a little guilty so i bought it, i feel like it was worth the money for the amount ive enjoyed

i suggest you pirate it and see for yourself
>>
>>332814778

Would you like a more combat / less puzzle focused Link to the Past with a dash mechanic and obtuse secrets?

If yes, get it. If no, meh.
>>
>>332814816
Pirate it and decide for yourself. It's okay, but I'm not gunna support ZQ/Anita supporters.
>>
>>332814816
I wouldn't throw a $20 on this

The game is fun, but the way secrets and exploration has been made (1% figure things out, 99% hump the walls) really hurts it

I'd drop a tenner on this but no more
>>
pretty good game but it has lots of bugs and having to hump walls Doom style to find anything is retarded, didn't bother finding all the shit so it took me about 5 hours

started up new game+ but couldn't skip that fucking intro so I probably won't play it again, would be good value for 10 bucks, not 20 though
>>
>>332814952

It would probably be easier, but it'd still be the inferior scheme.
>>
The north region is super easy compared to the east but I've heard tales about the west.
The thing I'm having the hardest time with is the drift challenge.
Fucking absurd length of time of keeping a perfect rhythm and I can't get past 400
>>
>>332815410
>inferior scheme
Why/How?
>>
I hate the way they have designed the secrets.

There are a billion places where they could hide something but there's nothing or places where you can go into the wall but there's nothing

There are so many red herrings that could have been good secrets, and then all the real ones are just 'oh there was a hidden switch behind this tree that made invisible platforms appear, but to activate it you basically need to stand in a spot where you can't see your little helper dude and there's no reason to ever think there would be something there'

This is not fun.
>>
>>332815431
honestly all of the areas arent that bad, even the south is just kind of annoying more than anything

i think the dash is pretty loose to be honest, i hooked up my arcade stick and just double tapped the infinite and had 100% success rate, i would just run into a wall every once in a while, and i would vary timing, so its a pretty loose window
>>
>>332815431
I feel like once you get past the 100 hurdle it's pretty much smooth sailing.

I switch to KBM controls and put my mouse somewhere with some space, then just pressed space and my character would quickly dash left and right between the cursor. After that it's just maintaining a rhythm, not so bad.
>>
So is it worth buying?
>>
>>332815868
Yeah I really think most of these people just weren't expecting the game to be a bit more punishing than the typical indie game, but there's so few areas that are actually challenging. Fun game but the difficulty almost feels non-existent. >>332815992
I can keep the rythym but my attention span dwindles around the 300 number then I fuck up somehow without realizing it. I'll get it eventually I jump up about 100 every time I do it.
>>
>>332816194
I'd pirate it
if it was 50% or more off I might say buy, but it's not worth twenty burgerbucks.
>>
so are the health consumables limited? should i be super conservative with them or what?

i think the challenge is apt. a good game doesnt necessarily need to be punishingly difficult

a lot of times i would just run into a new situation, or the series of enemies would be fresh so i would have to come up with a method of dealing with it, the game is actually paced pretty well to the point where the average (me) person will hit a few stopgaps here and there and learn and succeed and then all of a sudden LOL ITS SO EZ U FUKN CASUALS

NG+ is legitimately pretty fucking difficult though, the prospect of simply beating some of the bosses is rough. the last boss will pretty much instagib you, let alone the 4 in the south area who just shove shit in your face.

so there's that
>>
>>332816194
>>332816390
I agree with this anon. There's alot of heart in it and you can see where the work went into, but there's nothing to justify spending $20 on a game that you'll only play for 5-6 hours that you could play carbon copies of on sites like Newgrounds. If indie devs want my money they have to make their game under $15 or be someone I have alot of respect for and though the game is pretty and plays well there's alot of originality as well.
>>
>>332816814
I agree with you 100%. When I say the difficulty is non existent, I don't mean to say it's the easiest game in the world, but because of how the checkpoints work (thankfully), there's no excuse for someone to say this game is too difficult to beat and at that point it's on them for not being able to complete it. There's definitely times though like the dark block crushing maze in the North that irritated me more than the rest of the game though.

well i must suggest trying NG+ out should you enjoy the game enough, it punched me in the balls so hard that even those sweet sweet checkpoints just meant i was trapped in a purgatory of 'fuck do i just go back and upgrade and lose progression or just raw dog it'

im still trying to beat the north boss, this game is much more difficult when a lot of the mooks are essentially crusher blocks
>>
how the hell do i chain dash?
>>
>>332818205
Shit sounds like I gotta get on that then. What are the major changes to NG+?
>>
test
>>
>>332818356
first purchase it

there's a room in the store to practice it

link the first one (its a bit tighter than the concurrent ones) right as the character flashes purple after the dash
>>
>>332818356
when you tap on the dash button imagine you're drumming then when you're on the third chain dash keep a 4/4 beat
>>
I've played 5 hours and only found 1 key, are they just hidden or do you buy them at some point?

you gain access to every ability, but have no grenades or upgrades for weapons, you have 2HP max, enemy encounter rooms are typically more stacked (typically with fuckheads that do 2 damage), and i believe bosses are in frenzy mode from the get go.

the last point you can take with a grain of salt, but i remember the north boss not being as much of an asshole as he is right now
>>
>>332818724
i need to buy it i guess.
>>
>>332818771
guess it's a relief I never use the grenades. sounds hard as hell though especially only having 2hp.
I can see why the North boss would give you problems holy shit.
>>
>>332819006
i think proper usage of grenades will be key for ng+, since a lot of those stacked rooms are a fucking nightmare now

those asshole birds that do 2 damage but arent really much of a threat (beam jerks, not fatties) are pretty threatening now
>>
>>332812117
Anyone?
>>
>>332818735
There are 16 keys in total, 4 for each area.

>>
>>332819939
800.
>>
>>332819446

>>
>>332819939
Protip, just enable keyboard and mouse, and tap the spacebar never moving the mouse.
>>
one thing i really dont get is

why would you ever use anything other than the rail gun

i can maybe kinda see some usage out of the shotgun, but afaik the railgun is the best gun that you get from the standard gun

it seems kind of strange how contrasted that is, almost an afterthought
>>
>>332819446
Yes. once you kill the boss go back south into the abandoned village and head east into the brush. There's a maze that you have to complete to grab the next piece.

That might have it
>>
Is this game's map the worst map in all of vydia?
Holy shit this is terrible, giant chunks go untouched/explored but you skip from area to area not really being able to tell what would lead where.
And fuck that sewer line map, that shit barely links up properly to the other map.
I think it might be my biggest gripe, it's clunky and unintuitive as fuck.
>>
>>332821463
Nope, been playing for 5 hours and I've only managed to find one key

No, I've played Megaman ZX

but yeah the map is pretty fuckign shit

Oh, I found another key
there's an invisible platform in the waterfall cave area where you first fight the laser bird mages, it's at the very topmost part of the pit at the top of the area.

I want to get off wall hump's wild ride
>>
>>332821889
It varries from person to person. Seems the average is 5~10 based on the threads. Largely has to do with if you get stopped by a difficult room, or spend too much time lurking for non required secrets.
>>
It's fairly challenging but it gets easier once you buy the projectile reflection skill
>>
>>332822056
Using the KBM set up I noticed that sometimes it wouldn't dash to where my mouse was, which is how I discovered it. its not a great challenge to begin with.

Just beat the bird herd disco boss in the north
now the teleport pads aren't working. Was I supposed to do something to the tower that popped up or something?

Also, the timing on the chain dash is hard to get, even playing on a 360 pad.
>>
sooooo, the cool warrior chick(or dude idk) with the red sword has died in two separate areas(east and south) in my game, she even gave me her sword, cape, and robot friend again, I think this might be a glitch, has this happened for anyone else?

scroll to the warp pad of choice and hold y
>>

Dammit, how do you keep the rhythm for 800 dashes? I can barely make it above 100 even with the mouse thing
>>
So I posted about stuttering on full screen before and I "fixed" the issue.

The TV I was using doesn't work with 1080 (It's 1680x1050 or some shit). I switched to 1080 and the stuttering went away. So if anyone else is having that problem and isn't using 1080, try that I guess.

didnt get stuck up on any diamonds, but the third boss's corpse appeared twice when i went back to the boss room, also is she really supposed to tell you her sad backstory and then die right in front of you twice? i doubt it, but i havent beaten the game yet so idk

>>
Alright anon from earlier has gone from 6/8 shards in the east to 7/8 shards. What has everyone else found?

How do I chain dash? I don't get this if it's timing or what.
It seems entirely fucking random.
>>
>that secret area in the library where you have to walk left through a secret passage and then there's a passage WITHIN that passage that leads to a teleporter to another area with ANOTHER passage

>>

Timing and you can't mash it from what I can tell unless you can really fucking mash hard.
>>
I think I might know where the final triangle in the northern area is

So you can chain dashes in the air if you get hit

In the library before the boss, there's a platform on the right that's not connected to anything, so I'm thinking if you can double dash across it via getting hit, there might be a secret behind it.
>>
>>332826717

>>
>>332825003
Well, before I did the mouse thing (>>332819939) I just thought of a metronome to keep a steady rythm. With the mouse trick I was just spacing out though, too easy.

>>332826059
I feel it sort of starts with one or two wind-up dashes, after that you can keep a steady rythm - your "own" rythm - as long as you aren't too slow or too fast on the spacebar. What this guy said is relevant: >>332770380
>>
>>332827330
From the warp point in the northern area
go up, take the left staircase down, don't take the tele, instead go down, don't take the bridge, go down, dash to the little platform covered in trees, go down
get the yellow power up thing, go down, then go down all the stairs and shit and you'll end up there

There are no secrets in the tutorial as far as I could find until you get to the final area you blacked out before reaching initially
