The Playstation 2, has been finally laid to rest, as Final Fantasy XI, being the last active supported game for the PS2 has finally closed its service to the system today.

I started playing it again this week and was reminded of how how much better console games ran then.
Everything feels so much faster.
Even the games the worst running games on the console, like SotC, don't feel that bad.
I'm surprised by how many of these games never dip and feel like they are 45-60 frames.

PS2 was a slow burn in my case. I got one pretty early on with the Gran Turismo 3 bundle, but for the next couple years it was DC > GC > PS2 for me. Eventually it shifted to GC > PS2 as the DC had finally faded off. It wasn't until the GC burned out that I really got into PS2 stuff. In the end it was the best of them by sheer volume and jrpg goodness. The lengthy on-going support in the form of new games it got even after the PSP/PS3 launches sealed the deal.

Yeah I had a similar experience, but it wasn't the last time I went, it was long before that. But the games were still basically full price, which was pretty absurd so I didn't bother with it since I wouldn't really be gaining out in the end plus I already owned them.
Then during a black friday sale they had a group of bargain bin PS2 games by no-name publishers, but in the midst was a cardboard box copy of Dragon Quest VIII for 5 bucks. This was decently far into my game collecting but in a fit of stupidity I can only attribute to an uncharacteristic lack of desire for acquiring nice things I decided to leave it. Well, I already owned the game, so there's that consolation.

I started with a gamecube so I had more than a few games for it. When I started getting PS2 games for a long time MY GC collection was bigger, but now years later my PS2 collection spans multiple shelves where my GC games are more or less where they were when I was a teen. Last was DC collecting but that's relatively recent, but I think I still have more DC than GC games at this point.

Blood Will Tell is pretty fucking fantastic, but nobody ever talks about it. You're a samurai whose body parts have been stolen by 48 evil fiends. You have prosthetic replacements for every body part missing, such as blades in your arms and a bazooka in your leg. As you regain body parts the game changes how it displays itself, for example the game starts in black and white but when you get your eyes back the colour is restored. It has fun combat and tried a lot of new stuff.

I own a huge number of PS2 RPGs and I won't answer this. Why? Because it's totally subjective and there are a huge number of rpgs on the PS2. Like personally on of my favorite series is Xenosaga, but at the same time, the games range from terrible to okay in gameplay and the story to game ratio is absurd. Still, you'll like what you'll like and most PS2 games bet by on how they're individual gameplay systems appeal to you or how much you enjoy their individual quirks. It's sort of a dead-end question unless you want the "standard" answer best games, which you'd no doubt find via google.
Why are PS2 games so cheap compared to games from other consoles?

I have so many fond memories of the PS2 and sinking hundreds of hours into the Disgaea games is just one of them. However, the one thing I regret is that I didn't know about any websites with games, there were no ads, nothing. So I was always left with picking stuff that just looked like I'd play it. Because of this, I missed out on alot of stuff like the R&C games, Jak and Daxter, SotC, MGS. I still got to play Bully so I'm happy

I was 11 years old when I saw that first FMV intro to Silent Hill 2. Holy shit. My dad and I had no idea what we were looking at, even after seeing Toy Story (which everyone considered the pinnacle of CG capability at the time) it looked way more realistic to us. To this day I have never been blown away by such visuals, maybe the latest shitty Battlefront being the closest thing to even come close. I was just a kid, but still. What an enormous leap in graphical fidelity from PSX to PS2, even if SH2's fog compensated for the PS2's lack of power, the quality was amazing. What a ride that game was, story and all. I could hardly play it without hiding away. I watched my dad beat it over the course of 3 weeks since he had regular work, but we both love and remember the experience to this day even if we hardly speak. What a time it was to be alive.

FFXII would be the perfect candidate for an HD remaster of some form with with IZJS content. The HD remaster of FFX was cool that we got the international content but it was mostly extra bosses and a few additional spells and balance changes. The international version of FFXII fixed so many issues with the game and is a much better game than the US version.

Rouge Squadron in general was the definition of video game Wizardry the N64 version used a custom made sound driver which is why its one of the few N64 games to have the amount of voice acting and sound quality of the PS1. When it comes to emulation vs real hardware, always go for real hardware if possible. While emulation of the PS2 (and PS1 for that matter) has made major strides in recent years and is a good substitute if you do not have the real thing, it cannot compare to actually playing the game on the real system.
You can either mod your hardware to run copied games, or you can buy the real thing. Collecting classic games is fun but in my opinion, a penny more than $10 on a game that is 10+ years old is asinine, but it's up to you how much you're willing to spend.
I did admittedly spend $20 on Shadow of the Colossus in 2009 because I couldn't find it used anywhere, only new.

FF12 pushed the system to its limits really it actually had a system in place for spells to keep frame rates up. Spells were listed with a number based off graphical intensity some spells ended up queuing longer and would not go off until there were no other spells up.

I remember my first two controllers I had on the earlier model DS2. The L1 and R1 buttons had these two thin plastic pieces to keep the button presses straight and from rocking around, they always fucking broke and L1 and R1 felt flimsy as fuck.
I believe it was fixed later as my current PS2 controller never had the issue and it came from a PS2 slim.

Damn I knew the PS2 version had inferior graphics but thats a night and day difference.
The only time I bought PS2 over GC was for online play if it had it didn't have an xbox.
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory in partciular was fantastic online but the PS2 version has vastly inferior graphic particularly the lighting and shadows which was huge in a game that was mostly at night or in the dark.
