Some general information here for new guys.

Having Transponder off will cause non-pirate factions (assuming you're allied with pirates) chase you like a cop chasing you without your seat belt on.

Tri-Tachyon are space jews and deserve nothing but destruction. If you must friend them, only do it to get their super annoying phase ships and/or weapons.

Low-tech ships have low flux and sometimes no shields but have high armor and hull health. Typically outfitted in ballistics only or ballistics with missiles.

Middle ships are a combo of shields and hull, and use energy and ballistic weapons.

High-tech are all energy, maybe with missiles, and have high flux capacity/dissipation. A series of them are phase ships which can at times be pretty bullshit to fight against.

Mods are very simple to install and get, somewhat akin to Bethesda games. Just make sure to follow the steps of upgrading the Java in the game to a newer version and edit the vmparams file to give more memory or else the mods will overload it very quickly.

Starsector+ adds the most things I believe, with Nexerelin behind it.

Most factions are balanced, save for Approlight and Templars, which are meant for boss factions. Hiigaran Descendants also has a bit of OPness to it, but that's mostly in its burn speed and maybe a few weapons/ships as far as I know.

Almost all mods require the couple Lib mods, so get them first. Almost all mods will also have a link to the Lib mods.

Carriers and ships with flight decks can service around 3 or 4 fighter/bomber wings during combat. The Combat Readiness percentage goes down in fighter/bomber wings when they are destroyed and replacement chassis are made in battle. As long as you have a carrier in your fleet somewhere, either in or out of battle, you will not lose the wing completely. Information on the wing when you own it will show how many Replacement Chassis it has available for combat.

Mining power yields more resources gained. Mining also gives experience to you and your crew, but not your captains. Pay attention to the Hazard Level, which is percent chance to have an accident. Accidents include loss of Combat Readiness, taking hull damage, and losing small amounts of crew. Mining has a chance to find a secret cache of items, weapons, or even some ships and fighter/bomber wings.

Economic events will be told in your Intel screen. In the map in the Intel screen you can hover over star systems to find the stations and planets that belong to factions and their stability/power level. Stability level makes a difference when invading as they have more to repel you with.

Currently no black holes, but they be a future thing. Also in the future updates the 4th skill tree will be unlocked and able to be used.

Max Burn Level is your travel speed. Generally try keeping it at minimal 9, or 8 if you have good cash and ships to ward off any faster hostile fleets.

When doing trade runs by comm quests, try going for the ones at least 30 days unless you know you can get the merchandise and reach it before the lower time limit.

How in the FUCK do i increase the chances of coming across a Neutrino flag ship in the ports or market places? Are some of them shut off by default? Neutrino was BTFO by someone in my current game and while i find the occasional ship for sale at the prism freeport they aren't capital ships anymore. Not even the unsung spawns in shop anymore.

If I take Neutrino locations from other factions, does that add Neutrino ships to my possible pool? If anyone could tell me what to edit to increase the odds of seeing Neutrino ships, that'd be great.

Works fine. The AI is pretty good for the most part. If your ship feels too slugging in combat, hold Shift to constantly aim to your cursor and strafe (in the event you're not) and get the Auxiliary Thrusters hull mod. It helps a lot when your ship is slow to turn.

See if you can partake in large fleet battles. Salvage at the end is dependent upon the amount of damage you deal to the enemies however, so if you don't even scratch them then you aren't getting much. Just go kill some of the small stuff if you can.

Well I was referring to the small ships and fighter squadrons in big fleet battles, but I'd go find a star system with 2 or more pirate bases (with allied bases of course) and see if you can find small fleets there. More bases generally = more fleets. Just hover over the systems in the map in Intel page and it'll tell you all the stations and planets inhabited.

When you level up, you unlock upgrades you can slap to your ship providing you've got the capacity for it but they're more like stat bonuses than anything.

You buy ships and create your fleet then fuck around in space. It's still on beta though but people just stick a couple of handfuls of mods to make it playable.

Okay. So being a trader was the worst decision I ever made. Buying form one place then selling to another isnt really that exciting. But starting with a free friend is so nice.

I keep running out of supplies rapidly (2 combat frigates 1 tiny cargo) . Yet I keep running low on funds if Im not a system that has a pirate bounty. The AI either starts killing them all or the pirates are just one big death ball.

Open Market Fluctuation Trading is opportunistic at best. You also need to take account for tariff. Which is 30% loss on buying and 30% loss on selling.

Procurement missions have no tariff. That should be your bread and butter if you want to be a convoy runner. Not market fluctuation.

Then there's smuggling. You can either sell 500 legally x and 100 y on the black market to remain unsuspicious.

Of course, you can go full illegal smuggler. But eventually they will send assassin fleets if they hate your guts enough.

For general systems bounty, don't use Emergency Burn, don't chase them in hyperspace.

In other words, you need at least 11 burn if you want to make profit off hunting stragglers. That means a small frigate tier fleet.

Forgot to mention that open market prices also degrades rapidly. If you sell 1000 x of something at initial price, it may degrade to worthlessness by the 500th one. Which adds the the unreliability of chasing market trends.

I had about 9 million earlier, roughly 5 after buying Gilgamesh. Its pretty bad when your capital ship fleet consumes 100+ fuel a day in hyperspace, and a stack of that is 200k. Markets like Sindria don't offer fuel for much lower either because it can't keep up with my demand.

Now I'm just gonna run with a fleet trying to stay below 20 a day. Good thing fighters don't burn fuel so I can bring a few dozen of them if prices stay this way.

All maxed out, its an ungodly number to see that much fuel when I consume like 15 supplies a day. But it is also my fault for taking a bunch of Atlas freighters to do those 5k+ cargo procurement missions while having all those battleships.

You really can't win trying to do those big payout missions and bounties at the same time. My fleet was too fucking big and inefficient, and I should focus on one. When industry comes I'm going to hope to be more self-sufficient with fuel and be a gas hog all I want.
