I have a Radeon HD 6870 still, and it's only been until recent games where I've been seeing frame rate drops in high settings. So I don't know what OP was doing, but I'm guessing he went the pre-built route.

You know if you take Buying new consoles when they come out, Full price games, Piracy, and paid online services into account, I think PCs work out to be cheaper than consoles.
I bought my rig in 2nd hand parts in 2008 for 700$ (saved about 800$ and got a free monitor) and I only had to replace some broken Ram and the Power supply. in a year or so I might need to buy a new graphics card but I'll still be running games until then better than anyone on a console.
But hey, it's none of my business if you guys want to waste your money.
I have this cool thing called friends so when the cool hot new game comes out I can just barrow a ps4 or a wii u for the weekend.
My only regret is falling for the console meme and going full master race from the beginning.
