actually wish I pirated xcom 2. I love the gameplay, but it wont run. I have never had a PC exclusive so poorly optimized, it might have been better if they made it cross platform at this point.

Trying before you buy is not a bad thing. I have pirated a lot of games and eventually bought, played a lot more that I never thought it would have liked just because it was free and easy, then loved them then bought them. circumstance and region only release is a bitch.
>>
>>332634969
I felt this way after I played Skyrim for a few hours. Bethesda just craps out shitty half-baked products and lets the modding community finish it for them.

I had a similar experience.
I pirated the game and some early patch, played a few hours a day for a few days, finished the Kellogg quest, started doing the Institute infiltration quest and the first Brotherhood quests and I was already bored.
Fallout 3 was too barren, Fallout 4 feels too dense. It needed more empty space with small things you find that arent part of a quest.
The shooting is the best in any Bethesda game, but still not good enough to justify playing the game as an FPS. All characters ending up having most skills is dull, and your personality not only being defined, but also being defined as one I dont like (unlike Geralt, who is defined but I did like) also killed it for me.

Its probably the best game Bethesda have made since Morrowind, but its just Bethesda Game: 2015 Edition. The formula needs more stuff, not taking stuff away.
Hopefully they make a new engine and add new mechanics in the next Bethesda Game game.

I bought a physical copy of Splinter cell: Chaos Theory which is now a paperweight because the shitty Starforce DRM will not allow the game to run on any OS past XP. Ubisoft support tells you to download a crack or buy it again from Steam.

The Steam version of GTAIV I have is also similarly useless since GFWL died in the arse. Rockstar have yet to patch it and many never actually do so. The game will run after several hours of fucking about and trying to find the correct .DLL files to copy to the correct location. But even then I'm told you can't save your game...I wouldn't know because it crashes after 10 minutes.

Here I am, a paying customer being harmed by DRM, while pirates have a better experience. I'm still not going to pirate games, but I'm extremely careful about my purchases nowadays. I certainly hold nothing against those who do pirate. I can absolutely understand why they do.
>>
>>332631998

It invalidates those who paid for it, making the item worthless.

If you had a Ferrari duplicator and made a bunch of Ferrari's, they'd be worth nothing.
Additionally, Ferrai wouldn't be able to develop any new cars because they wouldn't have the money to do so.

> Another dimension of copyright policy is the extent of fair use: some ways of reproducing all or part of a published work that are legally permitted even though it is copyrighted. The natural first step in reducing this dimension of copyright power is to permit occasional private small-quantity noncommercial copying and distribution among individuals. This would eliminate the intrusion of the copyright police into people's private lives, but would probably have little effect on the sales of published works. (It may be necessary to take other legal steps to ensure that shrink-wrap licenses cannot be used to substitute for copyright in restricting such copying.) The experience of Napster shows that we should also permit noncommercial verbatim redistribution to the general public—when so many of the public want to copy and share, and find it so useful, only draconian measures will stop them, and the public deserves to get what it wants.
> For novels, and in general for works that are used for entertainment, noncommercial verbatim redistribution may be sufficient freedom for the readers. [...]
> Changes like these could bring copyright into line with the public's wish to use digital technology to copy. Publishers will no doubt find these proposals “unbalanced”; they may threaten to take their marbles and go home, but they won't really do it, because the game will remain profitable and it will be the only game in town.
>>
>>332635490
Piracy is illegal and against the distributor's will.

The return policy is a offered service.

Can someone who knows stuff about american law help me out?

Here in Germany if you buy a game (no matter if physical copy or download) you don't acquire property of the game but you buy a right to use the software (license).

If you pirate, you are using and copying the software without the right to do so thus it's illegal.

What's the legal situation of this in murrica?

>>
>>332641349
It is true though, except for the part about him being happy.
Piracy is a process that simply does not exist in a system of physical goods for money, so treating non-physical goods as such is flawed, which is reflected in the fact that there is no definitive legislation on it.
Piracy is not legal or morally accptable, but it is definitely not theft.

>>

It is the systems fault that you can pirate games so easily.

What a load of shit. You know that lending a friend one of your SNES cartridges was technically illegal too? Do you think it's morally unacceptable to borrow a game off a friend too? I mean you're playing the game without paying for it.

Fuck your line of logic. In the 90s if I wanted to play a SNES or master system game I'd borrow it from a friend or rental store and then decide if I want to buy it. Since I can't do that anymore with all the always online shit and DRM I'll pirate first then buy later if I deem the game worthy of my money.

1. Deal with it nerd

2. You are literally an idiot if you pay for something you can get for free.
